So what is every one seeing for Acorn development this year? On my land in Indiana we have what looks to be a bumper crop that is just barely budding is that possible? If so how long until they fully develop?
The ones around our hay field are absolutely FULL of acorns. Really big, but still nowhere near ready to drop. I think the drought has effected different areas in different ways. I guess we're lucky as far as that goes. Our corn isn't worth a crap and summer food plots were burnt up. Hoping for better luck with late season plots
Kinda weird around here (northern IL). I see some trees that I can not even locate a single acorn, but right next to it a tree is LOADED! I did notice that the majority of the trees have acorns that are still fairly small, which seems kinda strange for mid-August.
Here in the Black Hills most of the oaks I looked at had a good crop. I figured with the lack of rain and dry winter acorns would be few at best.
Red oak crop in southern NY seems to be fair at best...the few white oaks in the valley and on my CT properties seem to be very good...surprising considering the lack of rain fall. I am seeing short corn in tassel.....
We got quite a few that are loaded...but also have some that already are dropping premature due to the drought I would guess.
Trying to figure them out. Trees here are too tall to see if there is anything on them. Here is to hoping they'll drop. Specially since it seems like the corn will be late. Acorns may be the one thing I have to pull them out of the corn.
Checked this morning... The live oaks are loaded... everything else is pretty sparse. Last year... even the pine trees seemed to have acorns dropping from them.
A lot of red oaks in my area are loaded and dropping but its hard to find a dropped acorn without a worm hole. Not sure if this is causing the early drop or not.
I glassed for acorns over the weekend. Found some trees that look like the acorns did not develop completely. Probably due to warm up an budding to early this year an the dry spell. But that was just a few trees. Most trees have a decent acorn crop. I have seen better but have seen a lot worse.
Checked the oak grove this evening and most of the oaks here have dropped their acorns and critters have eaten most that have dropped. Way early for the crop to be on the ground, but I'm sure the 51 days of 91+ temps and the lack of rain have a lot to do with it.
