2011 Shed Season - On the board. (Horn Porn Pics Enclosed)

Despite a solid blanket of snow, I decided to self-medicate this morning and cure my cabin fever with a little stroll around our hunting grounds.

We're in a new area that clearly holds some big deer, but we're still on the low side of the learning curve, so I decided to take the opportunity to get out there and confirm my suspicions as far as the bedding areas go, and see if there are any heavy runs that I may have overlooked during my in-season scouting.

My expectations were low, as I never have much luck snowhunting for sheds. The odds became even longer when I checked my trailcam, only to find three bucks with full headgear on my card.

    Whatev.

I drove all the way out there to scout for sheds and look for travel patterns. So dammit, that's what I did. I stuffed the SD card back in the trail cam and just like that, 2011 shed season had officially begun.

    15 minutes later...

Just like that, I went from zero to hero.

    Oh boy.

I'm like a human shed magnet.

After 3 minutes of Glamour Shots, it was time to dig 'em out....

    BOOM!

A silent fist pump put the final stamp on the festivities, and I stuffed 'em in my pack.

Right away, I knew who this was.

...so, I decided that since I was playing with house money, I'd just quit while I was ahead and roll on home and get out the tape measure.

    Drumroll please....

With an 18" spread credit, he grossed 141".

He's officially on the hit list for 2011.

    Great finds Fran. Great buck.

Awesome to have the sheds off a buck you have pics of.

You make me wish I had ventured out this weekend.. but also inspire me to maybe take a walk one eve this week if I get the chance.
