Next year e and my brother are goin to be goin to maryland ohio and illinois he has never been hunting befor and he wants to go to some good states for big bucks. does anyone have any land we could hunt on maybe or have any tips for the state land. every little bit helps
Best bet is to get on all of those states DNR websites, and look for state land in the known big buck counties, or near the areas you plan on going to. If you're not sure what counties are good, you can usually google "top 5 Ohio big buck counties" and search that for every state you're going to. State land is tough, no matter where you are. If you have the opportunity to scout ahead of time, definitely do it. Otherwise, I'd scout on aerial photos, and spend my first day out scouting based on what I found in the aerials, then set up on the best spot. Don't overlook smaller parcels that most guys wouldn't think twice about, and don't be afraid to walk a mile or more to ditch the crowd.
