Big ... you still aren't making sense to me ... if you will shoot a buck and/or a doe, why not enter the contest?? It takes an entire team to win ... if you shoot a spiker and a doe (and your happy about it) you will earn more points for your team than most of the contestants will ... I only contributed 107 points to my team last year ... if I didn't ... we would have lost ... same with all the other guys that scored ... besides, it is just for fun and like Mike said, you get to know other members alot more
MUWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Hunter Dan will be standing proudly over a Ben doll claiming victory to all that would dare to challenge his master
I am one of the new guys to the forum for this season and I can't wait for opening day. I will be entering the contest also. I have one buck that if given the chance I will take him. He may not be the biggest taken on the forum mthis year but, he will deffinately help out the score card for what ever team I end up on. I can promise a doe though. I am almost confident that I will put 50 points on the board in the first two weeks of the competition. This season I will be focussing on doe's but, if a good buck comes by my stand I will stick him. This is going to be a fun season and this cometition will just add to the fun for me. If nothing else it will be great to see everyone's deer they take this year.
x2. Sure some guys take it way too serious, but 95% of the participants realize its just for fun. And I have to be on Duke's team again or I'm taking my ball and going home. Thats proper protocol, right?
Maybe I'll just shoot the first young buck that walks in, get my 50 points thanks to the fergie clause, hope my teammates pick up all the slack resulting in a win, and then talk trash for the next year. Maybe.
Well, it's "supposed" to be just for fun, but I think the percentage of folks who take it too seriously is way above Vito's estimation of 5%. I've only been in the contest twice. The first year I passed on a few bucks that I would have been happy with trying to put points on the board. I ended up with no bucks at all. The next year I sat the contest out because I didn't like having someone elses expectations or someone elses opinion of what an acceptable buck was interfering with "my" hunt. I ended up getting a 10 point. Figures. Last year I got back into the contest and ended up getting an 8 point that looked a LOT bigger from the tree than it actually was. I actually felt bad about how small it was. Not because of my own personal standards, but because of the contest. I don't know about you, but to me that's sad. This year I'm going to do things right, and by that I mean I'll do it my way. This year I'll be in the contest and I'll shoot what-ever I want to shoot. If someone doesn't like that it's just too frickin bad. That being said, my prospects for a good buck are excellent this year.
I believe there were around 200 participants last year. Were there way more than 10 people that took it too serious? I didn't think so, but I guess it doesn't matter. The main thing that does matter, in my opinion, is whether or not this "contest" affects your hunting. It shouldn't. If it does, you are doing the correct thing by not participating. There is nothing wrong with not participating. I have never once thought about the contest while hunting, or when making a hunting related decision. Its all for fun.
First off to some of the contests is that you have to be able to talk smack and have a good time doing it but also receiving it. I know that there are some who like it as to wanting to be at the top. Me I like it because of smack talk and there are great guys on here. First year I ended up with a small buck and this past year had a nice 140 class deer that could of been a lot more if not beat up. Do I think I will top that one, I am not sure but I will try. If I dont no big deal. I will never let anyone ruin my hunting. My hunting is my peace time with the world I live in. That is how I enjoy my personal time and no one will ever ruin that. Gods creation and I get along way to much for anyone to do that.
Vito first you have to get your ball back from the the better half and then you can say that! HE HE HE Duke had a good reason to slack this year and dont blame him. Kids are the best thing untill they talk back. LOL I have two out of the house and two to go. Woot Woot. So when you get your ball back Vito let Justin know that way we can see about you and Duke being together again. I just hope you guys are not hiding any EXTRA CLOSE friendships from us!
Either I am not paying attention or I just don't care if someone is getting too serious about a fun contest. That is their problem. I join the contest for the fun part. I am going to shot what I want and pass on bucks I don't want to shot. Contest has no bearing on that. I figure most on here have the same mind set. There isn't any buck too small for the contest. The Fergie Clause took care of that. :D If you're happy shooting him that is all the matters. I am 1 for 3 on bucks for the last 3 years. So that is two years of 0 points for the teams I was on. You shoot a buck you were happy with and put points on the board. You've shot 2 bucks out of the last 3 years. I would think the guys that get too serious about the contest... would rather have you on their team then me. I know I would if I took it that serious. Have fun with it. Tim
Ummmmm.... seems to me someone owes me a chocolate malt from last year's butt kicking. And you thought I invited you out of the kindness of my heart for just bowhunting this winter. I want my malt DAMMIT !!!!!!! :D Tim
That was sub-par smack ... keep trying to sent from my DROIDX 2 using Tapatalk with permission from Germ and to impress others.
