Just read over on that other message board that the MSRP of this new Bowtech will be 949.00. Are these companies serious? I can't believe these bows are now fast approaching the one grand mark, with some of them already above that. I was thinking of looking for a new bow this year, but I will never pay that much for one. Even if the price comes to 850ish, thats still entirely too high. Three years ago, I bought an 07 Allegiance, new for $700. Now... they're almost $1,000? It keeps going and we'll all have to start financing these things.
When people stop buying "speed" we will likely see prices start to come back down until manufacturers come up with a new gimmick that sells. All the investment that goes into building the newest "fastest bow ever" has to be paid by someone. If you(anyone) are not into speed then any bow from the last few years will do nicely. A used two year old bow can be had for +/- $400 and they are very quiet, efficient and plenty fast enough even at 60#'s.
X2. With newer technology comes newer/advanced manufacturing which with it comes higher prices. There is obviously a demand, since just watching AT reveals people going through 3 to 4 flagship bows in one season (and they're not on staff). I'm an in "betweener" of sorts. I used to think I had to have the latest and greatest, but I'm starting to view it as money that can best be spent elsewhere. Granted, to each their own, and everyone is entitled to buy whatever makes them happy. The nice thing is that trading a 2010 model in for a 2011 model isn't going to make you any more accurate or kill an animal anymore efficiently.
I have a BRAND NEW AM35 that I'll sell someone for $600 shipped.....:D Seriously, though, used is the way to go most of the time, but there are some great year-end deals to be had as well!!!
I agree. I used to love buying a new one every couple years, for nothing more than having a new "toy" to shoot. Looks like those days for me are over for the most part. Not that I can't afford a new one, I just won't pay that price for one. Maybe these companies need to create a "Certified Preowned" program for used bows. LOL. That way we know the used bow we're buying has been checked thoroughly before being sold.
Actually, Bowtech went the other way with some of their bows. You can buy a similar bow to your Ally for 550ish, fully equipted with all the gear, the Assassin. Yeah, the flagship is up there, but their keeping pace with the other companies. We need to keep in mind, if we didn't pay the prices, they wouldn't continue to make bows that retail for that. Supply and demand.
Prices are insane and i refuse to pay full price. I just ordered a new in the box 2010 Rytera alien X for $430 (shipping and stabilizer included) off of AT.
Ben/PA, I agree with ya. I think therein lies the problem. Guys are willing to pay whatever for the latest, greatest. I think at some point, at least I hope, people will come back down to earth and realize that a grand for a bow is ridiculous. What really astounds me is that even the "cheapest" bows in a lineup, are usually well over 500. This bothers me from a standpoint that I have a little boy that some day will be heading to the woods with me. He'll need a bow and all the goodies too. Buying a new bow for him is almost out of the question with the prices. But as others have said. Good, used bows are easy to come by these days.
Its really is getting crazy as you see a few models between $1500-2100. I was that way I like getting a new bow every few years but it is out of control and those times have pasted. When I got my bow it was $800 new but got a new on ebay for $625. You just can't buy on impulse. Its not going to change they go up $50 a year.
Yay first post! The prices are pretty outrageous. Even though I'm very new to this, the market still seems to be exploding, new technology coming out like crazy, hoyt with their all carbon, mathews with their size, and bowtech with their speed. It will have to cap off somewhere, realistically one isn't going to spend a few grand on a new bow. As stated above though, people are buying them. I went to my local shop here in Indy a few days ago, they were completely sold out of the Matrix and Rukus, even had 18 more Rukus on order... 18!!! $400 for a kids bow... they will grow out of!!! There was a guy that came in, already had a hoyt crx 32 and was looking at upgrading or just, "wanting something new"... I guess I'm going to add to it, saving for a z7 xtreme, but it will be years of service, not just 1 or 2.
Right there with you Indy. I'm selling my trusty Switchback and saving up for something new (new to me, but I'll be buying used). The front-runner is a Carbon Matrix, and there's not a chance I'm paying $1500 when I can spend $900 on a perfectly good used one...damn, $900 is still a lot! Tough trying to justify it to the wife! Maybe have to "downgrade" to a Maxxis 35 to keep the cost down.
Yeah but no sense in downgrading when you could just wait a month or two. I'm going to take the plunge and buy new, but it will not be gotten rid of probably ever, but it will be a while, way too many other expenses. I guess to the OP... yes prices are extreme, but they're not too much if people are willing to pay. Just takes a little more planning. Especially for someone like me, this will be my second bow, and I'm completely addicted to shooting.
This new Bowtech won't sell for that price.....usually a hundred or so less than MSRP from what I've seen in past years.
Still shooting my 05 Ally and before that I shot my 96 model Jennings Quest. Bought both of them new but have gotten my moneys worth out of them. Would like to buy a new bow but may just buy a 10' model Destroyer, AlienX or Maxxis.
used 2010 monster 6.0 $500 bare bow....good buy ebay is the way to go! look at g5 quest bows cheap and not bad
All of today's bows are designed using a computer. Take last year's cam design, make a few changes and have them cut out by a computer controlled machine. The same for the risers. With the exception of the Carbon Matrix there hasn't been any radical changes in the design of the bows, at least nothing that calls for a price increase of the magnitude we've seen over that past few years. The equipment is already purchased and no need to retool every year like Auto makers do. Maybe as archers and bowhunters WE"VE programmed the bow companies to raise the prices each year. Who would buy a top-of-the-line bow if it cost less than last year's? Obviously it is somehow inferior because it costs less, right? Bows aren't like oil where speculators and experts (who decided they are experts anyway?) "predict" the price of oil. The bow companies make them and set a price. If we jump on them then there is no reason for the companies to lower or maintain prices. If, on the other hand, we didn't buy the latest and greatest because of the cost maybe the companies will get the idea that they need to hold down the MSRP.
I have been shooting Bowtechs for years, and I was in a bowshop around Christmas time and looking at the Destroyer, right next to it was the Z7 for $100 less. That would be a deal breaker for many people. People will still buy the higher priced bow, but Bowtech better not let that spread get too much bigger. I never cared for Mathews, but that Z7 sure felt sweet....and $100 cheaper.
