Well it's right around the corner. Seasons are finishing up and playoff baseball is going to be on it's way. One of my favorite sporting events and definitely my favorite time of year in general. I guess I'm not a "baseball guy" (according to some):poke:, but I think playoff baseball is some of the most exciting competition in sports.

I'm a diehard Yankees fan. I just don't see it this year. Matter of fact I see an early exit. They are really wobbling there way into post season play. Don't think they have the starting pitching to lean on. A lot of guys pretty dinged up too. Sabathia got smacked around last start (but i'd throw him on the hill anytime and like it). Burnett is a basket case and can implode anytime. Pettite just coming off the DL and got beat up last start. Vasquez sucks. Nova can't pitch from the stretch and MLB hitters are starting to figure out his deal. Just simply not reliable enough. Bullpen has been ok and they'll always score their share of runs. Mariano has even proven to be human. Just not enough pitching period.

Anyway as much as I hate to say it I think the Rays are the team to beat. I see a Rays vs. Phillies World Series with Tampa winning in 7. Any thoughts or precictions?

    Yawn.........

It's kinda like the rich dad/coach that buys all the kids on his LL team the best equipment and uniforms. He's not even above getting kids from outside his area to "load up" with.

Except with the yankees, you don't feel bad for the kids when they lose.

If I owned the NYY, I'd have a clause written into all the players' contracts that said they owed me back $100K if they DON'T win the WS.

One reply and it's already turned into a Yankees buy teams thread? That argument is old. Don't hate because other franchises haven't succeeded like the Yankees to be able to do what they do. It's America.. Everyone has (had) the same opportunity. Matter of fact you should thank them for filling seats in other stadiums and revenue sharing. Blah blah blah...... Any other input baseball guy?

No hating, here. Don't know where you got that from my statements. And....if the "best team money can buy" mantra bothers you.....it's your issue. It doesn't bother me. I wish my team would spend that kinda dough.

I'd still say the same thing about them.

You're still not a baseball guy. But, you have the Yankee homer dialect down, solid.

Doesn't bother me in the least bit. In fact I kind of like it.

I still can't bet against the NYY. I'd love to see Texas come out of the AL, but I just don't think it's going to happen. Screw Tampa. ;)

Philly is loaded, they may not lose a game until the WS. Padres don't stand a chance against the Phillies. The Reds came out of the central and have struggled lately, neither is a good sign.

    Giants. Giants. Giants.

Giants vs. Phils in NLCS. No idea who wins.

Don't really care/follow any AL team that much. Would love for the Rays to win it, especially after what the Owner said.

    Braves anyone :throw:

Nothing like watching a 6 game lead get pissed away...You all can ride Bobby's nuts to the hall of fame, I will be glad to see him leave. Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz as a big 3 and you can only muster 1 ring. We head into the biggest series of the year last week with the Phillies and the have Oswalt, Hamels and Holliday going because they set the rotation for the series...Bobby, the players love him guys want to play for him coach says he will not mess with his guys rotaion. So what do we do, we send a kid for his first ever start in game 1, and kid with his 7th ever start in game 2 against possibly the deadliest line up in baseball. They took their magic number from 10 to 4 in 3 games. @#^&*@#^*&@

Sorry for the hijack and rant, but I use to get to watch the Braves play a little extra ball from time to time. I do love the playoffs though, especially the series.

*hijack* saw selig is wanting to talk about expanding the playoffs even more...It will be like basketball and life soon where everyone gets a chance even if they suck.

    Or hockey.....lol.

I remember the "Good old days" (of my baseball fan lifetime). You played each team in your div. 2X as much as everyone else in your league. If you wanted to play for your lcs.......you won the pennant. If you wanted to play someone in the other league....you'd better take care of your own business....and hope they won their pennant and lcs (i.e. took care of theirs).

I like the 3 divisions and the wildcard. Now, instead of a boring end to the season there is still some excitement. They should dump interleague play (along with the DH) and go back to a 154 game schedule. I would gladly take none of the changes that have happened if selig had never been allowed to poison baseball. He is the biggest POS in professional sports and a huge reason why I no longer follow baseball like I used to.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a phillies - yankees WS but perhaps with a different outcome.

What? You play for a MLB team? I thought we had established that we can not use the word "my" when refering to your favorite sports team unless you play for them or went to that school if refering to a college team. Weird.

I really don't have a prediction at this point. It has been a weird year in baseball. Some good teams have really fallen apart. I'm not counting out the Twins at this point. I would have said Rays 2 months ago, but their pitching fell off down the stretch.

I see a Phillies vs. Rays series going all 7 games with the Phillies winning at home.

Well, that's what you get for thinking. "my" team.....(i.e. my favorite team)....is a little different than the "we" crap.

Lesson over. You can resume your OT sniveling..

Lesson taken. It is now alright to use "my" and not "we" when refering to your favorite team.

So who you got winning this thing, Jeff?

If I were bettting, I'd say NY.

If I'm simply "wishing", I'm wishing for the Rangers.

I'm a Yankees fan, and I am not so sure about this year as well. The Yanks made it through 75% of the season before age finally started to show... injuries and guys loosing a step are starting to creep up. I could see an early exit from the playoffs, but at the same time I could see them easily winning the WS simply off of experience.

The Rays are getting alot of attention, and for good reason, but I honestly just don't see them fairing well against another experienced team when they have to go on the road. Pitching is amazing, offense is all based on stealing bases.

The Phils are looking great, the best starting rotation in the league (might be one of the top 10 all-time) and they have the bats to back them up....but I don't know what it is.... they just honestly don't seem to have the heart to me.

My dark horse is the Twins... best record since the break and they are doing it without one of their top two guys.... they are playing great right now and will not be an easy out to any team.

Twins are without Mauer and Morneau right now, without them they have no chance.
