Two misses today. One was likely a fox, stealing the bait out of a BC cubby set. The other was a straight up Coyote miss, the trap never fully sprang. Snow freeze and thaw was a factor. The last set I checked had a opossum in it. But I had no camera as I was checking them in a hurry after a morning bow hunt. Heard a ton of yotes this morning on stand. Know exactly where they were. Heading back out in a bit for some more late season fun.

What kind of yote trap are you using? What kind of bedding?

    What's a BC cubby?

A bobcat cubby is what we had setup specifically for bobcats. Dry dirt was our bedding, we just forgot the coffee filters that day and used oak leaves instead.

BTW, I thought of you as the opossum got bopped on the head, I actually laughed aloud.

Oh yeah, just dirt hole sets for the yotes.

Did the coyote trap not spring because it was froze down? Is it four coiled? Longspring? Off set jaws? :)

You using a body gripper or a foot hold for your cubbies? Try wiring your bait to the back of the cubby.

The yote trap never got fully closed cause the dirt got wet and clumped. Not sure on the trap type, lol, I'm still a newb. My father in law is teaching me. The traps look the same for both, but the wiring the bait to the back of the cubby sounds like a really smart idea. Thanks.

Interesting day. Walked up on my most promising bobcat cubby, and saw right away from 30 yards that we had some action. Had one in, he got out. The mistake I made, I'm guessing because my drag log was directly on the ground it froze to it and it was a bit on the bigger side. There was no give and he was likely a bigger cat. I have cut some tracks in the same area of a bigger cat too. I reset and hope he slips up again. This set has been hit two days in a row, although I think the day before was a fox that got a free meal.

That sucks to lose the cat, Ben... must not have had him very well anyway because just because the drag was frozen down he still should have been there... I say this because I never use drags; I stake all my traps, so they ain't going very far either. ;) I do run a couple of MB crunchproof swivels on my setups though.

The only reason we didn't stake that set was that it was on a frozen logging road and couldn't drive a stake. I went up and pulled all the traps today. I have to go back to work tomorrow and I can either check traps or bow hunt in the last 1.5 hours of light after work this week, I'll hunt. The only tag I have left is my buck tag.

I did take 6 traps and a half a truck load of scraps and carcasses from my processor to my brother's place and made a minefield set. LOL. My father in law said the technical term would be a gang of flat sets, I like minefield set.:) We used the corn chop to make a few mounds to direct them and put fox piss on them too. We also threw a bunch on the pile to make the target (coyotes) have to work a bit more to get to the good stuff. Should see some action, my brother says there are yotes over the place out there. He can check it with the binos for me twice a day too.
