I know there's a few of ya out there. This is my second year playing with this stuff. Just got out today and put out 3 sets specifically for bobcat and 4 for fox/coyote. I'm gonna get a few more out tomorrow after church. Let's get some pics when we recover some game.........Greg does a great job at this, I'd like to do better.
I can get you some antient photos from back in the day, ill add in a week or so when im off work. I was pretty muck a water trapper for many years. Good luck Ben!
Nice! You had to know something along these lines was coming. :D On a serious note, good luck! I'd love to get into trapping/predator hunting but I need to learn how to skin out the pelts. I wouldn't want to just "waste" an animal.
I've never trapped, but I often run coonhounds if weather permits (only went twice this year). I do it more for fun anymore, since the price has fallen so far.
Nothing in my traps today. Never got around to setting the other 4 that I wanted to. I inherited some guns and they needed cleaning.
I have always wanted to get into trapping. Maybe someday.... Good luck to you! It seems like an awesome outdoor activity. Sal
Slab, it's never too late. I wanted to real badly when I was a teenager; bought a book from somewhere that made it seem as if it was too intensive a chore for me to take on on my own with the boiling and waxing of traps, so I shelved the idea for years and years. Then, when my first son got old enough, I used him as a bit of an excuse to dive into it this time for good, as I wanted to be able to learn with him and for us to share the journey together. It's taught him a lot about wildlife, reading sign, and given him such a deeper appreciation of the diversity of God's creation. I'm taking a friend out tomorrow as we run our line, and I'll put in a few new sets just so he can see how it's done. I'm sure from there, I'll be helping him get started on his own -- especially if we have anything in our traps tomorrow. It'll feel good, as I tagged along on my first trapline just a few short years ago and now I'll be able to keep passing it along to others. It really is a very cool way to study wildlife from a perspective only possible through trapping. (How many times can you sit beside a live bobcat only a few feet away and study him... studying you?) If you want to see some of the pics of me and my boy(s) over the last couple years, just run a simple search with my user name and "trapping" in the search engine. Let me know if you ever get curious enough to have any questions.
Greg - you should put your trail camera over your trap! That'd be neat I think. Maybe even video mode?
Been thinking of trapping but more along the lines of wild hogs. I dont know if i would enjoy it enough to be worth the trouble. Anyone ever done this as a hobby? I actually like the sausage.
Greg, I tried to search. I recall the thread bud couldn't find it. The search bar appears to not include forum stuff?
