Well, here are two sneek peeks at the '09 Hoyt line-up. From the AT website. From what I can gather this first bow appears to be their 32" ATA, Alphamax: The second is possibly their 35" ATA version of the Alphamax: Only time will tell..... Can anyone from the Bowtech camp comment on whether or not Hoyt had to get rights for this design or did they change it enough to skirt around the patents?
I suspected they would have some sort of "center pivot" design. And I also suspect they will have a barn burner as well. They need to do something exciting, they're getting their butts kicked. Being a big hoyt fan, I hope they do. Our sales rep is at the annual sales meeting and should be stopping in the shop sometime this week. I'm anxious to see what they did.
I've been thinking about this bow since my last post.....Kinda ticks me off a little. All that design has done is show how good Bowtech is, and how far behind Hoyt is. This is just my opinion, but I think Hoyt is banking on the fact that they've been around for 77 years to sell bows. Again, just one man's opinion, but they need to step up and come up with something exciting. I also think Easton needs to come up with a really good carbon arrow as well. Longevity alone won't get you buy in this industry anymore. Having said all that....Guess I'll most likely end up ordering an AlphaMax XL...Hopefully I'll be at the shop when the rep stops by.
Hopefully Hoyt can do this without sacrificing speed on the bows. I love knowing I could beat down a poacher with my Hoyt and still hunt with it afterwards
Read over on AT and found that the 32" model shoots 321, that is about 9fps slower in the Katera. Hope they got something better in the mix for flingin 400gr. plus arrows.
I agree with everything you said, Mobo. I'd like to add, I think that design is pretty ugly. Doesn't look like the hoyts I've come to love. Then again, I'll be looking at the AlphaMax XL as well. Or an 08 Hoyt Seven 37
Now I can see the first picture. When are they supposed to hit the stores? I can't wait to try one out!
Alright, chew on this link for awhile.....it's the Hoyt 2009 Catalog. http://jvd.nl/09HoytCatalogue.pdf
Well, here is my opinion. I think the Alphamax 35 looks better with the new riser design. Something about the 32" version just doesn't look right to me. I told myself after I got my Trykon at 33" ATA, I didn't want another bow that short when I started shooting my ProElite (38" ATA). I didn't like the bunched up feeling low ATA bows give you. So, depending on how the Alphamax 35 holds and shoots, I might give it a shot. Which leaves you to believe one of two thing if you jump at the Alphamax series THIS year. A: since it is the first design year for this bow, will there be any unforseen problems? And B: Am I shooting myself in the foot if Hoyt decides to bring out a longer ATA version of the Alphamax next year which would better serve what I want to get out of a bow. I want a 3-D/Hunting combination rig....I was originally looking last year at the 37" ATA bows. This year I am left with a few to choose from. The Vantage Pro, Pro 38, Seven37, and I would even squeeze the Katera XL into the mix. Or, bite the bullet, get the Alphamax 35 and be done with it. Decisions, decisions. One nice thing is they did revamp their Hoyt schwag (as Duke would call it). Obviously, the riser design is very similar to Bowtech. Until people start shooting the new Hoyt bows, one is only left to believe they are copying a design that has seemed to work for Bowtech.... Second place is the first loser. One final thought, I do like the idea of having the "Black Out" color combination with the black riser and the camo limbs as a finish option. Might as well copy Bowtech again and get an inVelvet-like finish for next year as well.
Since when did Bowtech invent a split riser bow guys? Heck, as TFOX pointed out, the TEC riser isnt even hoyts idea. Pretty much anything out there now is regurgitated technology that is just improved upon. The speeds are usually minimums with Hoyt, and it is slower than the Katera because it has a bigger BH. Hoyt could put out a new 350+ IBO speed bow like every other company out there, but obviously this isnt their interests. Smooth as butter pull, quiet, dependable, and unbreakable hunting bow. Looks like they are just trying a new design for one this year, the split riser should shed some weight to one would think... I wont be buying a 2009 this year unless it just shocks me when i shoot it. Ill wait for 2010 models, and whatever I buy...it will have laminated limbs, almost certainly a Hoyt.
I have known this would be in the works since a couple Hoyt engineers approached our head of R&D at the ATA in Indy last year and gushed over how wonderful the center-pivot design was...
I heard they were redesigning the looks, but I think there's a little Bowtech in their bows. But what can I say, but follow the best.
Reminds me of a philosophy I have. If someone makes something but it explodes are fails, you find a way to make it better and more reliable!! Kudo's to HOYT on a design similar to the center pivot that will be built with reliability and the quality one would expect from a 5 layer laminated limb that can be dry fired hundreds of times!! I'm not selling my Katera though, if I wanted a center pivot that bad I'd already have a Guardian, but the Katera shot better to me.
Well it's not quite center pivot more like quarter or third and the pocket extends out and is part of the pivot. Also looks like some kind of vibration dampener in the middle of the pocket. We'll just have to get our hands on one and shoot it and then see how exciting it is. When I but bows I usually shoot several, so far I haven't been able to get away from the smooth draw and easy accuracy of the Hoyts. Not knocking others, just my experience. My 04 Supertech was my third new Hoyt. I may see another in my future! lp
