Well guys, with 2008 drawing near an end, I decided to go back through my pictures and make a post about my season outdoors in 2008. I am not entirely sure if this belongs here, or where exactly it would belong on the boards, so if it needs moved then that is fine. My 2008 season started with the opening of trout season here in PA. I look forward to trout season as much as I do archery season and I may take my trout fishing more seriously than archery hunting. First day of season found my fiance and I at Brush Creek in the morning and then heading to Little Mahonning in the afternoon. A few days later I was able to land this beautiful brookie on a 1/8th ounce black roostertail and he is now hanging on my wall. Of course, I had to take time out to do some scouting for Spring turkey season and also a little early scouting for deer. A view of the field edge where I arrowed my spring gobbler... Found this in a culvert ditch while checking out my honey hole property Spring turkey season opened up and I was able to get on a good number of birds and was able to take my first turkey with a bow, which was also my first spring gobbler ever. With spring turkey season over, my focus was now on bass fishing at my buddies family farm and doing some smallmouth bass fishing in the local trout streams. With fall approaching and thoughts of archery season taking over, the game cameras had to hit the field! I didn't have much luck at all and this is the biggest buck I got on cam all season... While my camera wasn't very lucky, my buddy was having some nice bucks show up.. Archery season kicks off and I had alot of activity early but no big bucks, my buddy on the otherhand was able to put a very nice 9 point on the ground. With the rut right around the corner, my buddy and I decided to take a little trip up north to do some hiking and a little fishing for native brook trout. After a 3 hour hike in the middle of the national forest we came to a great stretch of stream with alot of these precious jewels, but they didn't cooperate. We ended up pulling three out before we had to call it quits and hike out. With rut kicking up my hunting kicked into overdrive and even though I didn't put an a
Thanks guys, Troutking, I do alot of fly fishing as well, I actually broke my fly rod before season started and just didn't pick one up. I have a Cabelas gift card now that will be used on a new fly-rod. I think this summer I am going to try a little bass fishing with the fly rod.
Awesome dude! I want to do a similar write up, but my seasons not quite over, You never know...lol. Congrats on a great year, it won't be long, I'll be hitting the trout stream again. Ive never tried fly fishing though.... I guess I could be missing somehting, Ive just never had the desire.... Awesome pics man, thanks for posting.
Thanks again guys, I still have the late archery season to chase deer, plus I plan on doing some more coyote hunting as well as some small game hunting I never had the urge to try fly-fishing but my grandfather talked me into going one day and I was hooked. It is a blast and I love it, not enough to put my spinning gear down for good, but its still a blast to switch up. I will have to find a picture of my best trout on a fly rod, it was a 25" brown pulled out of the local trout club waters. Talk about a challenge!
BM...that was a good year!! Nice fish as well!! And to think...I drove all the way out to PA and you wouldn't even put me on some fish!! But when I was there, my buddy took me out on Raystown for some stripers. We got skunked, but I did manage to pull in a 2 lb smally and he somehow caught a huge crappie.
