I wont be able to get to my spot to take them down. What are the odds that they will still function after Monday when its going to be that damn cold?
Depends on the brand of cams, I have a couple of spy points that love the cold even the Ltl acorns work well with lithium battery's in them I got all my coverts out right now for some good testing but it's only going to get around zero temps for Monday. My moultries give up when it gets in the low 30s . Bushnells seem to work well also ,my primos will need a lifeline most of the time anyways even in warmer temps.
Most I've used will still function, but performance will be affected. IE- flashes won't be as bright, trigger speed will be slower. I've had cams take photos in temp as cold as -35. My best cold weather cam was my old Leaf River. But that thing took 4D and 3C cell batteries! I've been happily surprised with all the AA battery cams I've been running these last few years. I'll be putting out a carcass later this weekend for the wolves. I'll have all my cams on it Their cold weather grit will be tested.
I have the moultrie 990Gi out right now. The last pull had pics in the -2 to -5 range. I am just curious. I guess we will get a good sense of the durability on this beast.
I had my Wildgame Innovation cam out in -20 degrees for a good week here in central mn and it still works fine. Batteries may drain quick! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have two Moultrie and they both were out at -19 degrees Celsius with the night being - 31 derees Celsius.
My Moultries work fine in near zero weather. That being said, we are getting a foot of snow Saturday night and Sunday, with temps falling below zero at night, and not much above zero during the day for a couple of days following the snow. I'm due for a card pull anyway, so I am pulling the cameras tomorrow morning. I am due for a battery change as well, so I will bring them in a put them back out when the temps moderate a bit. They would probably be fine, but there's no sense subjecting them to these harsh conditions if I don't need to. I like my cameras too much to risk abusing them with these rare, harsh conditions.
I've pulled all mine now but the Covert and Bushnell have handled the cold well. Both of them have been in 25 below temps. The Covert temperature sensor doesn't work right. It bottoms out at 4 above and won't show the actual temperature when it is colder. Tim
I have all my cams out in Wisconsin, I want to see how they will work in these temps, I am actually looking forward to my next card pull in mid January, I get my biggest bucks moving around noon when it gets really cold out. On a positive note forecast shows low 30s next week for about a week, that will feel awesome. Scoot
I am looking forward to checking them next week when it warms up a bit. I have the "extended warrenty" so if it does stop working ill just return it. Be careful out there these next few days everyone. Matt
