I hunt with my dad and we use 2 ways all the time. I know most people text now but that's not going to happen with my 77 year old dad LOL. We bought some Midland radios a couple of years ago and they work ok about 60% of the time. Sometimes there is so much static we cant hear each other. We are never more then a mile away from each other (the Midlands have a 36 mile range) but we are in the foothills so that might be causing some of it, but sometimes we are both on top of a hill in our stands and they still don't work.

We talked about buying something better but from what I have been reading so far we are not going to get any better results with any other radios. I read something about Marine 2 ways being better but Im not sure. I would buy something better in a heartbeat but I don't want to buy something and get the dame results.

Any of you guys still in the stone age using two ways? What is the best or are they all the same?

My family uses them during rifle here because there is no cell in the hills and valleys along the river but i can say over the years all the different radios all seem to work the same for us.

I'd thought about using them (before cell phones were popular) but they are illegal here in ND.

we use to use two ways in the mountains and hunting closer to come. flat pretty land that is open the two ways worked good enough to get by. the heavy wooded area and mountains cut down the range dramtically for us.. it got to the point where the people hunting in the middle of our groups would have to relay messaves to the people farthest away from each other, sometimes maybe not even close to a mile .. and we were all using very nice expensive two way radios... we did use them for years and they got us by.

we use VHF radio, marine radios.... they are a tad bigger but doesnt really matter... we can easily communicate from a few miles away in the woods and mountains... open area, like water or fields at west with no interference and ur good for close to 5 miles. these can be had for decent prices and will give u much more piece of mind.

Invest the money in some Garmin Rino's. You will have the ability with the gps to see exactly where each other are and 2way communication in one device! If something were to happen to him in the dark you would be able to walk up to within a foot or so of his exact location! They are pricey but we'll worth it!
