Multiple buck state here, the bigwoods environment helps immensley in bucks being able to hide out and live to older ages. I can actually purchase as many out of state left over tags as I would like until they run out... at 300.00 a pop though, it gets expensive. I would much rather see antler restrictions on bull elk and bucks ...than a 1 buck/1 bull tag limit. Also if our state was to ever care about managment, versus $... They would look into antler restrictions on bucks and bulls (like our neighboring E. Wa. does) They should up the quota on doe and cow elk tags. Nothing like seeing 10 does to every buck sighting or 70 head of elk and 5bulls in the entire bunch. Like I said if it wasn't for the huge woods/ rugged forestlands out here for critters to hide out in.. Our deer herds and elk would get hammered. 2 month long rifle seasons are too long. The only nice thing is we can bowhunt if we choose to during rifle, I am happy they dont make us pick a weapon.
The states I hunt OH & PA are both 1 buck states. I hope both of them stay that way. I also hate PA's season structure & hunter mentality that IMO puts FAR too much emphasis and opportunity to kill only bucks.
Multiple bucks here in MD (at least where I hunt). Only requirement is that in any given season you must take two doe before your second buck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Virginia is a 3 antlered buck state, i think it is different in the mountains. some counties have EAB (earn a buck) requirements. we can also take 2 a day, again this may vary by area in the state. now lets see if i can get this to come out right: VA, east of the shenandoa anyways, you can take 6 deer, of those 6 at least 3 must be antlerless, or you can take no more than 3 bucks. If you want to you can fill your tag completely on antlerless deer.
In Missouri, you can kill 3 bucks with your bow. During archery season, you can kill 1 before rifle season and 1 after rifle season. You can also kill one with a rifle or bow during rifle season (with the purchase of the rifle season tag). Bow season ends during rifle season, so you have to buy a firearms tag to hunt with your bow for that two weeks. I just wish that the point restriction was throughout the state (its not in the county that I hunt).
In Iowa, I can actually get 3 buck tags as a landowner. One bow tag good for either sex. One gun tag for either sex. And my landowner tag (either sex good only for landowners property) can be chosen for any season, gun or bow. I usually get two bow tags, one is a landowner, and I also get a late season muzzleloader tag. We can also use our bow to fill a late season muzzleloader tag. So, essentially, I could kill 3 bucks with the bow here. In my opinion, that might be a little greedy, but it doesnt seem to really put too much pressure on the herd. I definitley dont shoot young bucks just to fill the tags.
Didn't think about using bow for late season muzzleloader tag. I also don't shoot small bucks to fill tags. I would rather take a mature doe.
Neal, Minnesota's buck herd Is already lacking big time. Giving another buck tag out would really put the hurting on the bucks we already don't have. Just my 2 cents.
Being a landowner in Iowa, I can harvest up to 3 (1 landowner, 1 bow, and one shotgun or muzzleloader).
I hunt where someone else is a few hundred yards away here (30 acres), up there I had prob 60-70 square miles to myself! haha
Here in Indiana it's one buck across all season's combined. Yep, you read that right, one buck (at least one spike over 3 inches) per year, period. The state is considering creating a trial period of 3 years where you can earn an extra buck if you take a doe, but they haven't decided for sure if they're going to do that.
Personally, I'd really like to see a second tag offered in PA, with special restrictions and drastically inflated costs. Example. 1. Pre Season application costing 20 dollars to apply for one of 25,000 available 2nd buck tags with a cost of 100 dollars to a successful applicant. 2. 4 point restriction and mandatory check in of said animal. With disclaimer of loss of ability to obtain 2nd tag if failing to meet special restrictions. Results: A trophy tag for guys that want to spend an extra 120 dollars on a hobby that they spend most of their discretionary income on. Also it would get the state about 2.75 mil in cash.
In MO ANYONE can take 3 bucks. Some can take more depending on if you get drawn for a managed hunt. 1 any deer firearms tag (can be used to bowhunt only during regular gun season). Then two any deer archery tags, only one can be used on a buck before gun season though.
In NY, you get Bow - 1 antlerless, 1 either or Gun - 1 Buck tag (3" spike or greater) Bow/Gun - up to 2 antlerless permits via lottery ... these can be used for all seasons Also, the late season archery/ML season runs for 10 days and you can use whatever unused archery tags you have, do So in NY, you can take 2 bucks ....
The stats each year in Illinois are about 51 or 52% does being taken compared with 48 or 49% bucks.. even though we get a lot of non-residents that don't shoot does the locals in this state certainly do. Do I think Illinois could benefit from a 1 buck rule - absolutely. But for the most part I'm always impressed with the mentality of deer hunters across this state.. every year they do their part to keep the numbers close but slightly in favor of does being taken. I know a lot of other states are not like this. My opinion... I see no reason not to keep the 2 buck rule here simply due to the above mentioned facts about Illinois deer hunters. (except maybe the outfitter triangle part of the state). But.. I agree the second tag should be earned.. just to keep these stats always this way.
I dont mind the 2 buck limit in ILL, but I wish there would be some restrictions like a 4 point side restriction or the earn a buck with a doe harvest, I remember back in the 1990's they had a year or two with no limit on the bucks or does!!!!!
I'd just be glad to see a decent buck. We can only harvest one buck in Indiana, which I think is a great rule. If we were allowed to harvest more than one, I'd just feel that much more inadequate as a deer hunter this year. Blessings.......Pastorjim
WV Seems completely different than most places. In my county I could take 6 deer if I wanted. 2 with bow (either sex), 2 with rifle (No Doe) and 2 with muzzle (No Doe). Some counties have bag limits of 1 other have bag limits of 3. This year I only bought enough stamps to take 2 with bow and 1 with rifle.
