This is my 1st year bow hunting, do I need to be concerned about the trajectory angle while in the tree stand? THanks for any advice! Cheri
Just pace off / range find distances from the base of your tree and mark them with sticks or other things that you can see from the stand. Shoot for the distance measured from the ground. Deer can look further or closer from the tree but your arrow flight will keep the same characteristics as if shooting from the ground. Does that make sense?
A²+B²=C² Yepp It works. Throw in gravity coefficient of your height off the ground and estimate a drop of average. 40 yd shot is 120' about... Arrows is 300 ft/s or so, so arrow's in flight for a bout half a second. At a drop of 9.8m/s² (acceleration of gravity) the arrow will drop about another foot lower. So add, with the angle, about 2ft on to your distance... 40yd shot from a 10ft tree stand....becomes 42yd from 10ft stand...126' at 10' high.....Distance you're shooting is really only 128ft. So you're adding a yard... FINAL SAY: DONT WORRY ABOUT THE ANGLE OF THE SHOT OR DISTANCE... JUST WORRY ABOUT YOUR FORM. (Brought to you by Downstate NY's finest moron!)
I just practice elevated shots off of our top level deck, it is right at about 17 feet, which is about what our stands are tall, I most of my shots from that height and it seems to help me be consistent and learn to judge yardages efficiently, I do not own a range finder, this is just what works for me.
