Long story short - I had a goal to shoot an archery bird without a blind this year, and it finally came together this morning. This bird flew down off the roost about 20 minutes after daylight, then flew over a creek to get into the field I was setup in. After 10 minutes or so of messing around, he finally got up the nerve to march into the decoys and that was all she wrote.

Turkey hunting can be awfully frustrating sometimes but when it works out and things go as planned, it sure can be fun. I haven't put him on a scale yet but he's got a 10" beard and 1 3/8" spurs. turkey-shot.png IMG_0052.jpeg

He's my trusty sidekick! Jake does all the heavy lifting, I just collect the beards.

That’s awesome, every year I say I’m going to take my bow. Every year I end up towing the 870 instead lol.

    Very nice bird!
I'd much rather run and gun them, I just find it to be more fun being mobile and finding a hot bird.

That's great if you have enough ground to run around on. Here in the Midwest we're often stuck on small tracts of land (100 acres or less) so going and finding a hot bird isn't really a thing. You just have to hope they are there or show up at some point during the day.

That's why I dislike the blind, if I crawl into it and don't get a bird to respond within an hour or so, I start thinking about the rest of the area I can hunt for them. All together between my own and family property, all connected, I have 400 acres to hunt on. My own place is 106, so I definitely get what you're saying if I imagine being stuck to only my own place.
The first two hunts I took my son out this year, there were no birds responding on my place at all and we had to go over onto the other 300 acres of family property to get into birds.
