If you are 20 ft up the tree and your range finder works it should say 30 or, at the most 31 yards. If you use your 30 yd pin you will kill the deer. You can't just make up numbers when simple math will give you the actual number.
my range finder does work because that is what it is made for. It tells me actual distance and "shooting distance" it even tells me the degree of incline i am. If i was wrong why would my range finder have two different distances on it?
If youare 20 ft up a tree and the deer is 30 yds away on the ground and your range finder says it is 40 yds then your range finder is a piece of **** and you should buy a new one. Familiarize yourself with the Pythagorean theorem. http://www.algebra.com/calculators/geometry/pythagorean.mpl
A squared (20 ft up the tree= 400) + B squared ( 90 ft to the deer = 8100 ) = C squared ( the actual distance to deer) and the square root gives the distance to deer in feet = 92.19 or 30-31 yards Simple math = dead deer
lol i was just throwing numbers out not an actual experience. what you are not accounting for is the degree of the incline. everything you guys are saying i agree with. but everything yall are saying is under the assumption that the ground is flat which like i said in my hunting area (Mountains) it is not.
Holy crap i didn't think that through to well did I !!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH I climb 30 yrds up a tree ... I AM A BEAST!!!!!! oops .. please disregard.
this is my range finder. http://www.cabelas.com/rangefinders-nikon-archers-choice-laser-rangefinder-2.shtml
I see, you were just making **** up to prove your point. Makes sense now. I guess there is no winning this argument
I gave up a while back. Thanks for picking up the mantle, but I'm afraid the effort is futile at this point.
I wonder how people killed anything with rangefinders that didnt show arc. hahaha. When I am in a tree those numbers are off by a 3 yards tops at 50 yards. At 30 they are always within a half yard or so. If you are in the mountains in a tree you have to use how far above the animal you are not the base of your tree.
Really? So you're saying that every bow hunter out there sights their set-up from 16 to 20 feet off the ground. C'mon man.
No worries. It is less trying to convince him than to make sure others that read this thread understand it. A lot of times in arguments like this it is not so much convincing the other guy that has his mind made up but more about helping others reading that may have a more open mind and are ready to think about concepts and try to understand them.
I know that it is not that much of a difference from the ground to the stand. I was just saying that the distance does change (not much) and it could change the pin you use.
have you shot with broadheads yet? reason i ask is because when i shoot field points i use my first pin to 30 as well. however thro on a muzzy mx4 and my first pin is 10, second 20, third 30, and fourth 40. broadheads cause drag which slows the arrow down a bit.
Imagine my complete surprise to be watching the Outdoor Channel tonight and see an advertisement, for an ARC rangefinder, that demonstrates my argument and at a steeper angle.
