Well now that the GTG in North East has passed I wanted to see how my set up would shoot my broadheads. Rob/PA noticed that I had numbered my arrows to see if I had any fliers..

Well anyway, shot them at 20 and bang ! Right on the money...stepped back to 40....and bang right on the money again...shot about 40-50 arrows from between 30-50 yards and they flew just like my field tips.

51 days to go for the big hunt and I feel as some on here can say, "well and duely prepared"...

Rob and I had a brief discussion on his view on broadheads and the flight characteristics of them. Which made sense..I would normally number them and use the arrows tha flew the best. However with a little work and I mean little every one flies similar.

Another good reason for a GTG..

I'm switching over to broadheads after this weekends 3D shoot. That'll give me just over a month before season starts.

That's fantastic Rob, the confidence that can give you when the moment of truth comes will be a major asset when staring down a bull elk, then come whitetails. I already look forward to some footage.

I have always done so myself, but I can see the view of why the #1 should fly like the #12. As of today's shooting I have no fliers...other than good ones..:)

Why would I not? No reason for it. If I have a flyer, I either fix the flyer or it doesn't go in the quiver. I don't group shoot broadheads, it ruins arrows. I have no reason to number them and when I did, I hated seeing numbers on them. Ruined the look for me.

I know which arrow I shot where at different dots or, like I've done most times, I work one arrow at a time until I have a quiver full and several back ups.

Nothing wrong with numbering your arrows, I just have no reason to. I used to, like I said but I always cringed when I saw the writing on them when sitting in a tree.

To be perfectly honest, I can remember always having two or three flyers and like Rob those never made it to the quiver. I do have mine numbered as a reference...I don't mind seeing the number for me.

Good to hear Rob, I hope you score a great bull out there. And then bring some elk burgers to next year's GTG!!!

    GABow,
As VA said, I shoot BH's pretty much year round, thus helping to build and maintain my confidence in my set-up.

+1, it'll be great to see some good video and hear some good stories.

I number my arrows, but never really thought about numbering BH's. Usually if I note a flyer, I switch a BH and check to see if I still have a flyer. If the arrow with that same BH is a flyer, then I feel pretty confident that it was the BH not the arrow.

I number mine with a fine felt tip on the nock itself - going on 4th year with these 6 arrows and number has not worn off - guess the nock never really contacts anything.

I numbered mine 1-6 after shooting them new with broadheads...1-5 fly great - 6 possibly had a little variance to it - so its just a stump shooter during season.

#1 has passed through 5 deer now...new blades each time - anxiously awaiting 6th deer.

Nice Rob. Gotta love not having to do any tinkering on the switchover.

You shoot the strikers? I can picture them, but not sure if I have the name right.

Rob (elknut) Good to hear you have the BH's shooting good. Now what are you going to do for the next 51 days? Still some 3-D shoots left. Maybe 2 bows isn't such a bad thing.

    Awesome!!!

Good to hear Elknut!!! As far as the numbering thing that's getting discussed here, I don't number mine either (I'd hate numbers on my arrows)! I spin test all my arrows with the BH's on that I'll be hunting with and the one that spin test's the absolute best will go 1st In my bow quiver closest to me. I have a 5 arrow bow quiver and the arrows get placed from best to worst according to spin test. The worst arrow Isn't by any means a bad arrow, It's just an arrow that's not quite as good as the best spinning one.
