Anyone else caught the first three episodes of the new Western 1883?

Not gonna lie I'm a sucker for Sam Elliott in anything so that alone would make me watch it, but I gotta say Tim McGraw is doing a legit good job on it....I'm mixed on Faith Hill, but that could be her character.

Anyways its been awhile since a good western story was told whether it be through a TV series or a movie. Storyline is fairly standard with history and they've not been shy about the brutal nature of the west either which apparently some are taking issue with - folks it was the west and late 1800s, people were dying everywhere, of everything or being murdered.

Anyways if you have the ability to and you like westerns its worth watching I'd say.

Paramount+ is how we are watching it, unsure if that is the only way though to.

I have a really hard time envisioning Tim as a western tough guy. Don't get me wrong it's still on the TV because the wife is watching but I am getting ready for bed when the show comes on.

I envisioned same thing, but he's surprisingly better than I thought at it.

I was underwhelmed by Episode 3.
Seemed like nothing happened at all other than foreshadowing. Like a 90 minute sequel that only serves to bridge the 1st and 3rd films.

And while she is a dime, the horribly fake Southern accent of the chick who's doing the voice-over narrative is just god-awful. Like her only voice coaching is from watching Gone With the Wind.

When filming long episode/movie type TV shows I hate to say it but episodes like 3 are likely to happen at least once just due to issues of telling stories. It did drag compared to the first two for sure.

I concur, her acting has been solid outside the voice...and is it bad that I feel her narrations make it feel worse, cuz in the flow of the show it seems lessoned?

No, and it (voiceover) is unnecessary. Doesn't really add anything other than foreshadowing, and anyone who has ever played Oregon Trail knows what's going to happen- Indians. Dysentery. Outlaws. Fever. Stampedes. Starvation.

Heck, they even threw in a deer hunt in Episode 3. I just realized that 1883 is basically live action Oregon Trail.

Correct it is based off Oregon Trail stories 100%

The voiceovers aren't necessary IMO either...BUT if I were going to do it I think I'd have chosen someone else personally.

What I don’t need is a bigger cable bill to watch paramount plus.

Watch Yellowstone, but 1883 is a no go.
