I love it! No other hole like it in golf. While I would definitely NOT want to see a happy gilmour atmosphere at every event on tour, I think that hole is pretty cool. The crowd is huge lining the par 3. No silence. The wave flowing through the stands. Chants and heckling going on. Beers being slammed lol. What a cool change of pace on tour. Most of the players love it and eat it up too. That hole is absolutely nuts on sunday afternoon.
You watch these 19yr old kids....shooting free-throws, with the game on the line....with the fans behind the goal screaming and waving their arms...... ................and this grown man has to have complete silence to hit a 2' putt???? We need more holes/tournaments like that hole! The 17th at Forest Oaks (Home of the old Greater Greensboro Open) was a smaller version of that one. I don't think there's ever been a tee shot there......that didn't have a bet on it....lol. You have people giving odds on whether or not it'll be on the correct tier. I cadddied in the tournament one year....and it was funny as hell to hear as you're walking up. When I was in the crowd, I was usually making them....and slamming beers. 17th hole was always sponsored by.............Bud Light.
That was the most agonizing video clip I have watched in a long time but I forced myself to watch the whole damn thing. They have to party to keep from falling asleep from the boredom of watching a golf tournament. Now a good ol tailgate party at a NASCAR race would put that 18th hole gathering to shame I bet.
I'm with NY. I think it's cool. But like he says, I wouldn't want to see it spill over to other places and tournaments. It's their thing. They came up with it and every year it seems to grow. Nut cases for sure. Rick, the difference between the NASCAR tailgating and the golf.. NASCAR NUTS are just slamming beers to get drunk. These folks actually participate in the tournament and have fun. They're laughing, yelling and enjoying themselves. Nascar folks.... just looking for an excuse to get drunk and pee in the parking lot. LOL However, the Nascar nuts eat a whole lot better.
