He is at 20 yds, you got the drop on him. Thru glassing you found all 4 points on one side are busted/broken to some degree. Will you take him? Be as honest as you can with yourself.:D

I wouldn't think 2x. I'm shooting, and he'd end up on the wall too.

Probably. But sitting here at my desk at work there is no way I could honestly answer that question. Too many circumstances that would dictate that outcome.

Sure. Missing parts of the antler doesn't affect the flavor of the meat ;) .

Probably depends on how badly he is busted up? If he looks good to me then of course I would kill him. If I didn't like the way he looks then probably not.

I mean....are you saying the buck still has 140 inches of bone even though half his tines are broken???

For this to be the case he is either a monster of a buck or isn't broken up too bad.

Without hesitation. I won't say I could care less about antlers, because that would be a lie, but I care more about age. Chances are if the 8pt would score in the 140s, he would meet my requirement for age.

You don't get too many cracks at bucks of that caliber around my area so I'd be taking advantage and dropping the string.

If he would score 140 with broken tines then I would. If he was a 140 before and his score dropped I wouldn't. I shoot does for meat.

The 140" 's was before the tines got busted. :)

I'd probably be shooting Bobby unless I knew for a fact that my chances at other better bucks was almost a sure thing. But then again say If he's a 3.5 he might get the pass knowing the next year he'll be awesome.

I'd pass. I had a buck jump the fence 200 yards out in front of me and come to 20 yards. I was just about to pull the trigger when my friend told me not to shoot. I pulled back with much hesitation and asked why. He pointed across the field to a buck with a much bigger rack standing there 180 yards out broadside. He looked as if he knew something wasn't right and was going to bolt. I dropped him. He had 13 inch G2's and 10 inch G'3's, except when I picked up the rack he was missing the G3 on his left side (the side I couldn't see). Had I known that point was busted off I wouldn't have shot.

I shoot at least 5 does a year(I'm aiming for double that this year), so when it comes to bucks...I have every right to be picky. The trophy is in the eye of the beholder.

How broken off? At the beam? Probably not.

1-3 inches busted off each tine....then yeah I'd smoke him.

He's 140" with broken tines? Or would have been 140" if they weren't broken?

    If he's still 140" I'm shootin!

EDIT...Ok just read the other replies, so what's he score now?

If he's that bad, I probably don't shoot!
