Got my first buck with a bow yesterday evening. I've been hunting pretty hard every weekend. Most weekends have started Friday morning in a stand. I've passed several decent 8 point bucks. The 8 pointers seem to be everywhere on our property. I have a picture of a really nice 10 pointer that I've only seen once when in my stand. The 10 pointer was what I was aiming for. I had been watching two 4 point bucks fight over a doe with a button buck right near my stand in a field. I heard a noise to my left. The buck was following the trail I had hoped a nice buck would follow underneath my stand. I only looked at him briefly. Decided he was tall and wide enough, but didn't know how many points. Decided I would shoot if I got a chance. (This was all in the matter of probably 3 seconds) I started to draw as he came up trail by my stand. He was walking broadside. Cleared the tree and I stopped him with a mehhh. Put a good hit on him. I have nocturnal that didn't turn on, but it was light enough I could see where it hit him. He took off really fast. I heard a death groan up the timber. I backed out as I thought he was down really close. Gave him an hour and tracked him. Hardly any blood where I shot him. I used a G5 T3 which I shot a doe with earlier this year. The doe had all kinds of blood. The buck didn't have much blood, but it delivered a quick clean kill either way. He was dead 40-50 yards away. I had really been hoping to get that 10 pointer and my patience ran out. I had too good of a shot at 12 yards to not take it. Couldn't be happier. Earlier this year I told my dad that I bought a nice bottle of whiskey to enjoy after the first person shot a 140 inch deer with a bow. We have both shot deer under that so I guess the bottle will have to collect some dust for a year. Sorry for the quality of pictures. I waited until dark to track him.
Congrats on a great deer! Now, let's work on the photography for some equally great field photos. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...s-of-you-and-your-deer&highlight=field+photos
I figured bad pictures were better than no pictures. I would have really liked to get a picture with bow in it where I found it. It was warm enough that I had some good face paint on. I'll try to get better pictures next time. Hard when you are on your own and it's dark. Good link though.
