Homestead', I will be interested in what you decide for DW. I have to agree with much of what was said regarding lower DW producing suficient KE to do the job on anyhing in this hemisphere short of a M1 tank. I personally shoot a bow that develops right at 90 ft/lbs of Kinetic energy at less than 70 lbs draw weight. Overkill? abso-freakin'-lutely I bought it used or I would have gotten the 50-60# limbs. That being said, if you wanna shoot a 100lb draw weight bow, knock yourself out.
i produce arond 86lbs of KE with my monster. Beast to let down in a stand tho always somthing to think about.
Same with my bowtech. The difference between the let off and not is so drastic and so sudden, there is no graceful letdown with it.
Yes i dont like this for hunting...ive gotten where i dont mind the 6in brace on my monster for hunting works fine for me...the weight is hard to let down because of the fast fast fast cams of the bow....oh well cant have it all right? =]
I don't calim to be a expert on the topic but, whats the point in pulling 100lbs when a 80lbs bow will still send a arrow deep into even the biggest of big game? I cant see 20lbs making that much difference? 80lbs & a razor sharp broadhead will get it done I would think.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I clicked on the link showing the Monster Safari, and there is (IN RED LETTERS) the word SPECS.. I clicked on this and it showed 85lbs and 70lbs.. Did not show 100lbs,,
The specs on the monster Safari at 85lb is super impressive. I mean 85lb, 425gr arrow, 30" draw @ 350FPS!!! Wow!! I can imagine what it would do @ 31" and 100lb! It would probably be the closest thing to the 400FPS mark ever out of a production bow. Probably the highest price bow on the market as well. Its already a $2,100.00 bow!! Imagine how many pieces of this thing you wouldn't be able to find if it was dry fired!
Most archers do not understand that speed can be your enemy without wieght. Momentum is your friend. For instance my 170fps 600gr arrow has yet to fail to get a passthru from my longbow. But my 380gr 275fps has on several ocassions. I bet if I raised the wieght of my compound arrows to 500 or even 700gr, the speed would tumble to 240fps, but I bet I could blow thru both shoulders.
And the problem here is that you have to find something that will spine right with that set-up, and the right spine may end up being an arrow inside an arrow to attain the stiffness needed to "safely" shoot that sort of set-up. There isn't any standard arrow that you can buy off the shelf that is gonna tolerate being thrown out of that bow too many times before it gets MESSY!!!
I am 59 years old and work out on Bowflex equipment just so I can continue to hunt and climb trees to hang stands. Let me tell you, I probly could at one time pull a 100# bow but there's no way I would advise anyone to do that. You can become stronger than your ligaments and bones will stand. It's amazing how strong your back, arm and shoulder muscles can get shooting a bow. When I first started out I shot an old Bear Flare and shot it at 70#. I first started my injuries with that bow. Anyway I sold it and it was years before I healed enough to get back into bowhunting. I found a Hoyt I could shoot comfortably I think it was a Superstar Supreme. Anyway through the years I have developed bursitis and popped a ligament loose in my right shoulder. (done pulling back a 65# Hoyt Supertech) It's no fun working your way back into shape to continue to bow hunt. If you can safely shoot a 100# bow more power to you. But just because you can do it doesn't make it the right thing to do for everyone. These injuries were not that debilitating when I was younger but believe me if I had known I would live this long I would have been more careful! lol I now shoot a Bowtech Destroyer 350 @ 60#, still as fast as a lot of more powerful bows. We want to continue with our hobbies as long as we can. I realize this is my opinion but it is tempered with a lot of experience. hth
Your right , i'll take either my 60lb Destroyer 350 or my new Invasion with a good arrow and razor sharp cut on contact head anywhere , with 81lbs of KE , the days of needing a bow that pulls 90lbs for big African game are over , and most of them werent able to achieve what todays 60 and 70 pound bows are producing anyways .
Seems like overkill to me. No need to kill yourself drawing your bow when you can easily kill any animal with 70#. Unless you are hunting Rhinos/Elephants, then maybe go with 100# haha
i was on the PSE website and there are alot of big game tropies taken on almost every content and i didnt see one the had a 100lbs bow.theres even a few water buffao.there bigger than bison or bear.
Isn't the idea of getting a new bow to kill animals? All I was suggesting was that you don't need 100# to do that. Everyone should focus on making a good/lethal shot rather than shooting really high poundage, because if you put the arrow in the vitals, 40# is enough to kill a deer. I shoot 60# and have complete pass throughs all the time. But to each his own I guess.
High Country and Alpine used to do 100 lbs back in the day. I'm betting PSE will do it or just get a set of Barnsdales made up.
