Just got a new Hoyt Nitrum 34. I am picking up stuff for it and I am getting a new stabilizer. I have been reading articles that suggest longer is better, so I am thinking about getting a B Stinger Pro Hunter Maxx. My question is what would be your personal preference? 10" or 12"? I mainly hunt open areas (spot and stalk) and treestands (might just take it off). I also shoot some 3d archery. Thanks for any input!

I use a longer one, probably 14" I have no issues shooting out of a tree with it. My bow is always on my lap so the longer stabilizer rests on my leg making it easier to keep my bow in place as I wait.

The past two seasons I've mainly used a 10" carbon blade hunter, and I really like it. I have never tried a longer one for hunting.

I really like hunting in a stand with my 15 inch. Doesn't bother me at all

I personally don't think you should automatically get a predetermined stabilizer length until are able to get the other accessories for your bow, sight and arrow rest being the most important. Otherwise how are you going to determine your bows best balance point?

If you can't try them (as most can't walk into a shop that carries a whole bunch of stabilizers to try) that's kind of difficult.

I personally have a 10-3/8" Doinker Elite Fatty on a QD Mount on my Nitrium 34 and it balances very well.

Great point Ske1etor. Luckily there's a couple of pro shops in my area that had a few different stabs that I could try before I purchased mine. The Doinker Elite is a quality stab for sure.

I wish.. Lol we have four shops in decent driving range. One is in town, not worth a crap, only sells Mathews bows at higher than average pricing and a few odds and ends. The other three are more than an hour drive and none carry any sizeable amount of accessories. That said, if you've got a shop that carries a good selection buy from them and keep them open as I wish I had a decent local shop to go to.

Ske1etor, ironically the shop that had the biggest selection in my area was a Cabela's. Their bowhunting sales guy opened up a half dozen stabs for me to try. But that's just how we are up here in Minnesota, sometimes.

That really depends on your setup. I would recommend getting on that allows you to adjust the weight if possible. That way you can add or remove weight to get the best balance. That also might let you get away with a slightly shorter stabilizer as well.

Anything 15" and under is good for hunting, but just personal preference I would go 10". And nice bow.
