I know this question probably been asked a lot here but i an having a hard time deciding between 1 pin slider and 3 pins fixed. This is my first bow. i know its a prefrence thing, some guys don't like many pins to look at, while other find it hard to slide a 1 pin on the go. what are your opinions for a first time archer. Im going to be whitetail hunt with maybe 3d. maybe down the road id just by both 1 pin and 3 pin.

Single pin. They're just so simple. I leave mine set at 25 yards. 1 1/2" high at 20 yards and the same low at 30. On a deer? Hold center mass and let we fly. But having said that it's just what u get used to.

I personally prefer a 3 pin set up. It's less fooling around when your getting ready to draw back on a big buck. Now if you have a really fast bow a 1 pin sight wouldn't be a bad deal because there would be less adjusting.

3 pin. Set them at 20, 30, and 40. The 20 pin will work for anything less, half-way between pins will provide good 5 yard aiming increments, and the 40 will be mostly for skill-honing at the range until you're really confident in your abilities.

I think both 3 and 1 pin are great no matter what. I go with a 1 pin because I like the simplicity. If were to take chances at shooting at 35 or 40 yards I would consider a 3 pin. However I don't shoot that far out because so much can happen in a 30 plus yard shot in the woods. I try to be patient and wait for a good shot within 25 yards so I feel confident and have more control on the factors. I have an on going debate with one of my buddies. He shoots a 3 pin and claims to hit poker chips at 40 yards.( Idk if he knows how far 40 yards is.) Anyway, once he enters the woods, I do know that once he sees a buck he get that buck fever anxiety and has a problem hitting something at 20 yards.

But overall I would get something you're comfortable with that ables you to make great shots in the woods and competitive archery. And don't forget to practice.

This is how i would set up as a beginner. This is exactly how I have my sights set up. But by all means do what u feel comfortable with. I too am a first year bow hunter. Shot bows before but never bow hunted only rifle hunted growing up.. super amped about the season being here in 30 days..

This is what I'd recommend too and similar to how I taught my boys. They grasped it immediately.

My setups on my bows with sights include: multiple pins, single pin pendulum, and then there is the sightless, but let's not go there...

Not quite, a recurve, but didn't want to get into instinctive shooting...politics, I'll (try to) keep in the water cooler forum. :)
