Wanted to see how you all shoot, 1 eye or 2 eyes open? I am a 1 eye person for now but i just talked to a guy thats 2 eyes open and have been trying it out. Overall results are not as good yet, but I am going to continue to practice on the bag and see where it takes me. Is there an advantage to 2 eyes open?
First off, Wlecome to the forums! Now to the matter at hand. Using both eyes is better. Better field of view, better focus, etc... Having said that, I shoot with one eye. I'm right handed but left eye dominant. Usually you can switch to your off hand, but I've been hunting so long with rifles & shotguns using my right eye that I'm now cross eye dominant. They both fight for control, so I elect to shoot strong handed and squint my left eye. If I could, I'd use both, but one still works.
I shoot anywhere from one eye open to two eyes open. Sometimes my left eye is partially open and how much depends on circumstances and light. I think 2 eyes open are an adavntage in low light situations but, other than that, I don't see any big difference. Most of the time I have both eyes open though. I just like the better overall view of the target/animal.
I'm pretty much in the same boat fitz. But as Bruce said, sometimes I can get away with shooting with two open. It seems to depend on what mood my eyes are in that day.
I started out shooting with two eyes but now switched to one eye with the advise from a coach. It's so much easier for me it feels like I'm cheating. Don't know why. I was shooting so far to the left with both eyes opened that I was running out of adjustment on my site.
Most of the time I shoot 2 eyes open. Like Ftiz said, better field of view. Sometimes though depending on the lighting, I will shoot 1 eye open. I shoot the same with 1 or 2 eyes open, so I will adjust for the lighting when I have to.
Two eyes open, sometimes when I get out to 60+ yards I will squint my left eye slightly. Helps me focus my pin a bit more
Yeah, what he said. Some purists will try to make you feel bad if you only shoot with one eye but I wouldn't let them worry you. If you're comfortable with how you shoot and can shoot well, don't change anything.
I shoot both open. Started out with one eye. I tried two eyes open and loved it. Several things about it over one eye for me anyways. I feel like I have better target aquisition, Its easier for me to watch the arrow fly (which is important to me) and in low light it is easier for me to see my target. just a few things.
Here is a sugesstion for you. Aim at your target with one eye then before you release your arrow open your left eye to. I do that so i can focus my shot better but then i can see my point of impact better and watch the deers reaction.
Fitz, thanks for the welcome. I am relatively new to bow hunting, been into it 11 months, but had my first buck down after 2 months (10 point in velvet @ 17 yards) and have been ate up with it ever since. I'm a decent shot, but i really want to improve my technique so that I am more consistent and better at long distances. I'm realizing more everyday that i am left eye dominant so i am trying to incorporate that eye into the shot. Michael, thats exactly what I am trying to do, but its freakin difficult. it feels like i'm opening my eyes under sal****er trying to get used to it. I'll keep at it and let you all know how it turns out.
I started using both eyes a couple of months ago and my groups have tightened up and I don't have no eye strain after a long practice session. I can see and focus way better in low light now.
Right handed but left eye dominant here also So my left eye is shut But I have been accused of shooting with boy eyes closed
