i am interested in buying the axcel amortech hd sight, but i am debating whether i should get the .019" pins or the .010" pins. it seems to me that the .010" pins are great for 40 yard +, but is it possible for the pins to be too small for closer shots?

For me, I would say yes. I can't speak for others. I am sure it is a matter of personal preference.

I would think eyesight would be a factor too i.e. near-sighted, far-sighted, etc.

I dabbled with the thought of making a serious run in 3d to attempt to win a state championship a few years ago. Liked the idea of how it would sound on my archery resume.... but just had too many other priorities come to the forefront (family, career, etc.)

During that time frame, I ordered a Spot Hogg Hogg-It with .10 pins for that endeavor.... Hated the pins.

Actually didn't hate the pins, I hated my eye's inability to see them well enough to use them as intended. ;)

For me, I prefer the .19's for finer aiming. If I were to ever use a .10 again, it would be only for a 50-yard pin, but my .19's seem to function well for that, even at that distance.

Yeah I used .10 pins one year for hunting and man I'll never do that again, not only are they hard to see in general but in low light conditions they completely suck imo.

I have two rigs going right now. On my Destroyer, I have a Viper 5 pin with the top two being .019 and the rest .010. On the SWAT, I have just the top pin as .019 and the rest .010. I will likely have the first set up like the second sometime soon. This past 3D year, I shot all .010. I do prefer the .019 at the 20 mark and for the extra brightness in low light conditions.

Shows the difference in age :D

My top pin on all my Hunter Hogg-its are .29, with the other three being .19.

I've found that .29 is perfect for a 20-yardish shot at a big-game animal; I can still see PLENTY of vital area around a .29 pin, and it stays "lit" longer than the .19s at last light.

I have considered going that route for a couple of years due to you mentioning that setup. If I weren't so lazy to change things I already would have. I eventually will. That setup would work perfectly for me and the way I hunt.

Apex makes a bone collector edt. sight with two .019 pins up top and two .010 pins below, all green with trintium fiber optic. Ive yet to have an issue with seeing these .010 pins, but i would think ANY other color and i would strongly stay away from .010. If you dont have an issue with all 4 pins being green this is a great micro adjust sight for $100
