From: Cabela's Communications Subject: Senate Bill 850 - Freedom to hunt on Sundays Date: Jan. 28, 2011 On Monday, January 31, 2011, the Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee of the Virginia State Senate will consider Senate Bill 850, which seeks to allow hunters in Virginia the freedom to hunt on Sundays. In Virginia, as well as in the 10 other states that restrict or prohibit Sunday hunting, all other sporting activities, like golfing, fishing, skiing and so on, are allowed. The isolation of hunting seems unreasonable. As you probably know, hunting and associated industries are the largest financial supporters of wildlife conservation throughout the United States, contributing billions of dollars to habitat conservation and wildlife management. We all have a vested interest in preserving our country's outdoor heritage. If you're interested in increasing hunting opportunities in Virginia and across the country, we encourage you to weigh in by contacting the appropriate committee members in the Virginia Senate ahead of Monday's hearing. Their names and numbers are listed below. Virginia State Senate ? Good luck! I can't imagine not being able to hunt Sundays, thats one of my main days to hunt because of college
How many have you already called? The reason I say this is......I GUARANTEE YOU the folks at the Churches are calling them.
Called my district already and a few others.. answering machine... who'da thought that? I left my message with a return number...we'll see...:D
I will e-mail those members tonight. By allowing me to hunt on Sundays, I will gain about 20-30 extra hours a year of hunting. Also, if/when some of my kids want to hunt, those Sunday hunts will allow me to enjoy many more hours of hunting with them every year. PASS THIS DANG BILL you weird people that rule the state of Virginia. I will not mention any names.
Because, I just endured several years of it occurring here in NC. Trust me, PT. I stood up at the Dist. 7 NCWRC meetings every year, in favor of Sunday hunting. Each time I attended the meetings, the opposition was mainly (overwhelmingly) from the religious side of the issue. After politely letting the opposition state their case(s) the last time I spoke in favor of.......I started my comments by stating "I am a hunter.....and I am also a Christian". It's a running joke at the bow shop, here (a lot of my friends were also there). As soon as I got the aforementioned words out of my mouth at the last meeting.....my comments were met with....."Well.....you ain't much of one". Again....trust me. The opposition (overwhelmingly) is from the religious groups on this issue.
So their position is that you can't be much of a Christian if you support Sunday hunting? What a load of crap based on 100% pure emotion and 0% logic. I belong to a church and I am a Christian as well. Sometimes I just shake my head of how irrational some Christians can be. They give the agnostics so much to mock and laugh about. Sometimes Christians need to realize it is not 1912 anymore and some of their positions on things look silly.
Wow...on the behalf of Christians with their heads out of their rumps, I apologize!! That is ridiculous...... Wow.... so much for a free country and the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness....
I really don't think most "church people" would have an opinion on this one way or the other. Blessings......PASTORjim
Yea, here in Pa we are one of, I think 6 States that don't allow Sunday hunting! They are all in NE United States. It must be the "Blue Law" sector. As big a deer hunting State Pa is, wouldn't you think they would have allowed it by now? If for no other reason, look at the extra revenue the State would pick up. I voted electronically in favor of a proposed Sunday hunting bill that was supposed to be submitted to the proper "higher ups". I haven't heard any more about it. LET"S GET WITH THE 2000's PA!
There are two major groups that support the No Sunday Hunting here in Virginia. The Farm Bureau (which mainly consists of Old School Christian Farmers) and the Dog Hunting Alliance (which is an "upper" class group with lots of money). Banning Sunday hunting is so unconstitutional on it's face that I am surprised that it has existed this long.
