I hear of several people using dye&scent free detergents as alternatives to the high priced "hunting detergents". I have always used DDW or HS myself. It seems like some of the free detergents still have UV brighteners. The goal is finding one without any of that. Just curious to what you guys use or have used. Some folks say just use baking soda.

    Thoughts?

I know there is another thread about this and some guys just dont want to smell like anything but I have used the scent smoker system on my older camo so far this year and welllllll I havent been winded yet and have had a few deer down wind of me. When I do wash my better camo that I dont smoke down I use dead down wind and I like how it has worked for me in the past.

I use All unscented with all my clothes, including hunting. works just as good or better IMO. the arm and hammer stuff is pretty good as well.

I also use DDW - but once they're out of the dryer - I throw them in a tote with Earth Scent Wafers (maybe that kind of defeats the purpose of washing them?)...my husband and I never go off of the wind. I personally have not shot a deer with a bow - but he does all the time and doesn't have any problems with them winding him. Everything stays in the tote until we are to are spot then we spray down with scent off.

I use DDW. I've had deer down wind at 10 yards with their nose in the air trying to scent check and they didn't bust me.

Even though I use the Scent Smoker on my clothing I still buy good unscented and UV free detergent as well as baking soda to wash them before smoking them up. Even use the name brand scentless dryer sheets in the dryer before taking them out to smoke. I feel I want to get rid of any human odors or perhaps any blood or even pet odors from the clothes before smoking.

they will smell you way before they see you plus ACU's are not a good hunting choice anyway, too much velcro and way too noisy

This has nothing to do with ACUs, it has everything to do with what name brand detergent you use and whether they contain optical brighteners.

Seventh generation is what I am using this year. Seems to work well. No optical brighteners either.

and like replied, they will smell you way before they see you (or you see them) so "optical brighteners" means nothing to me but a marketing ploy to get you to buy their stuff. i will keep using what works for me
