I'd put a bunch of cameras out hoping to catch him. It'd be nice to know if he's still alive. If you find him, maybe you can even set up on him when things settle down!
Went out last night at dusk again looking for my nock, no luck. Walked the property all day yesterday including last night and haven't found any positive sign. We informed the neighbors (hunters) to let me know if they see anything. Haven't gone back out today.
I think he explained it in the initial post... Always wait for your shot (not quartering to) and be patient. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We got that... my bad... I meant... anything additional. ( I don't mean to be rude... I just love learning as much as possible from other's experiences.)
Ya that's weird. At first glance I thought it was a but high but you were so close and the downward angle would have been steep. So you should have been good. But watching the slow motion you had no penetration at all. What equipment you using? Arrows? Broad heads? Bow? Seems even if its on that shoulder blade modern equipment would break through. Listen do the best search you can. At some point when you have exhausted all options. You need to let it go and go after another one. Who ever says they haven't made a mistake either bad shot or missed shot. Really have not earned their stripes yet. You don't become good until you royaly screw up once. After that it will always humble you and calm you down when the next buck comes. The big screw up will always remind you to focus. Once you have that focus then you truly are a better hunter.
Sorry to hear this but most of us have been there one time or another. You took a marginal shot and it didn't work out. Learn from it and move on. That's called experience.
Perhaps I missed it but are dogs legal and did you do that? Trust me it is worth it...not sure if at this point but everyone reading this have a dog guy's number saved and ready to call if you can't find a deer!
Looks like you had a similar problem last year. What kind of arrow set-up are you shooting that you are getting such little penetration? http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/54775-shot-one-what-do-you-think-shot-video.html
I guess I shouldn't have been Mr. Obvious either - As a beginner to the sport I love to learn everything possible!
Swamp brought up last year and while I could care less about the two cases in two years (it happens) I would like to know if you got the arrow flight/bow tune/arrow spine issue figured out which that old thread illustrates with your arrow flight?
Saw that this happened last year, too. I also am interested in what you are using. I obviously have no room to talk (I'm still waiting for my opportunity) - but I'm interested in seeing if maybe this is a flaw with your set up. Unfortuantely, with the time you put in already, sounds like this one got away. I agree with putting up some cameras. Good luck.
I guess I will throw my two cents in on this. In my opinion that's a high shoulder blade hit. You have to remember the camera lies to you with the lighted knocks. At that steep of an angle It wouldn't surprise me if the knock kicks 10 to 12 in after it drives into the shoulder. Yes if you watch the knock it looks like you hit him behind the shoulder, but the knock is not where the arrow hit him. You can see this if you pay close attention to the arrow in the slow motion clip. We have run into this quite a bit since we starting filming and you always have to play close attention to the impact and try not to watch the knock. That's just my two cents I could be wrong could be right but I would be super surprised if that deer isn't healed up and running around.
What Clinton said was my first thought. I Had the same shot 2 years ago and stuck my arrow right in the should and it did the same thing, never found arrow, lots of blood, tracked him for over 2 miles on multiply property's and never found him. He lived for 2 more months and ended up dead during the rut. I found him less then 100 yards from were I shot him 2 months prior, and pulled out the shoulder blade and there was my perfect broadhead mark in the bone and it started to heal over. I don't think he killed this buck, I would bet he will survive this encounter.
