What's the best buck call to use during the early or mid season. Don't have one yet and was looking to get one. If you have links or where to get them that's great to. Thanks

mid season grunt calls, searching/seeking phase estrus calls mixed with tending grunts has always been deadly for me.

early season...notta just sneakily sit and wait...

I would use pure silence at that time of the year.

What this guy said ...the pure silence call is deadly.

Yep, I think most hunters should leave the calls at home regardless what phase of the rut it is unless they can really be disciplined and not over-call. We aren't hunting ducks.... I rarely blind call. It's more of a last ditch effort. Either I am losing light and need to try to make something happen or I am trying to turn a shooter (key word is shooter) back my way.

I don't carry calls until late October and even then I rarely use them unless I see a shooter a ways off or trying to make something happen right before I pack up.

Unless you can make a dinner call that replicates the sound of your food plot or dropping acorns Id just be quiet and in the right place until late October before thinking about calling.

doe bleat bye far. I use a doe bleat all season . I use it a lot if they blow the usually come back to check it out . and of course during the rut . I pulled a big six like eight yrs ago on nov 8th out of a swamp a good 300 yrds away right to me with 2 bleats .it was at the far end of some power line and I watched him come all the way .

What you did during the pre-rut/rut has no bearing on what you should do in early season.

Sometimes I yell "Where ya at buck?!?" in the early season. Never seems to work though. Going to switch to "Get over here boy!!!" this year, see if more of a demanding, authoritative call works better. Will let you know!

I'll take the grunt tube out in the early season only to make one or two, i guess you could say "contact" grunts if I see a buck off in the distance. If he hears it and ignores it, the call is useless. The best way to get a deer to your stand in the early season is silence, in my opinion.

In 15 years of bowhunting, I've only successfully called in 3 mature bucks, maybe 10 deer total. I prefer silence but will use a sequence of tending grunts and maybe add in a doe bleat during the rut if it's a good day for hunting and I'm still not seeing anything.

A good food source is a great call this time of the year. ;-) but all BS aside I would agree with silence like mentioned above.

Exactly! Once there's the slightest temperature drop that lasts for a few days in a row, the deer get into store fat/protein for rut and winter mode and they start pounding the food sources. We are nearing that time and food sources are the place to be. Then they're all over the place from October to November and then it's back to the food sources for more fat/protein for the cold winter.

Even though deer are vocal year-round, I would suggest to just sit and wait. I personally don't carry a call with me until mid to late October.

I believe you are referring to the acorn cracker call. Believe it or not they do make it. HAHA. You are dead on for saying to sit quiet. Couldn't resist bringing up the ever popular acorn cracker. Reviews of this call might be the funniest I have ever heard. Worth a look to laugh. Someone read the reviews to me while driving last year. Not sure where it was from.

Like most have said no noise is better but I do carry a grunt and if one is out of range I'll hit it a couple of times. I never blind call with a grunt or a bleat.

In early season I believe silence is best but come later oct here in iowa I'll use my doe bleat and buck grunt and call in multiple 130+ on public land by blind calling. Pre rut is my favorite time to call.
