I like to hunt between 20-30 feet. If I'm in my climber I go as high as I can most of the time. A few years ago I had a lock-on that I had at 35 feet and fondly referred to it as the Skyscraper Stand. I don't prefer that height anymore for a few reasons. My sticks don't go that high and I hate using screw-in steps. When you're that high, you have to adjust your shot for angle compensation---I missed deer from that stand (IMO) because it was so high. If I fell from it I would probably die, instead of just breaking both of my legs and my back.

Most of my stands average between 15-25 feet. That's because I have ladder stands and lock-on stands that make for different heights.

15-30 feet depending on a lot of factors. Ultimately cover and the topography are two major factors which play into stand height choices.

I seriously doubt anyone would survive that fall.

No idea why everyone uses stands that tall, seems ridiculous to me to go that high. I have one ladder stand that sits in a bottom area in a low spot that is 15' tall from the ground at that spot, path around a creek bank west of it is higher so the stand sits about 10' over that trail. Every other ladder stand (that's all I use) that I have is 10-12' tall. I have had great success from that height and I don't spend so much time and energy just climbing into my stands.

I have two (one old and one that I'm building) platform stands that are post construction that are only ten feet to the platform. I guess it's whatever a person feels good with and I can see 15', maybe 20' but anything over that in most circumstances is making a difficult job that much harder. Good camo, wind and scent control and ability to sit still and 10' is just as good or better than 20' IMHO.

Completely depends on the tree, surrounding trees, cover and topography. Most are close to 20, but I've sat from 5-30'+.

I like 20 plus . When I go below 20 I have been spotted before. It seem like I can get away with more movement when I am higher

18'-21' is where I like mine. Although I do have ladder stands that are 15 ft.

Ladders 99% of the time and they are 12 to 17 ft with 15 ft being the most common. Killed a good number of 150 plus over the years.

I never hunt any higher than two ft below the top of my stacking sticks. In my opinion there is no reason to go any higher. Its a lot easier and safer to get into your stand when you can still hang on to the sticks. We have had very few issues with deer ever seeing us.

    well done :)

OP, we hunt currently when in a stand anywhere from 18 feet up to 30 feet to base of stands.
