This will be my first year bow hunting and I'm 100% positive I want to use a harness. However, I don't which style will work best. I've tried on the HSS UltraLite and it was fairly comfortable. However, I've read about the HSS Elite and wonder if the vest style might be more advantageous.

What are some things to consider when purchasing a vest for bow hunting?
    Which harness would you recommend?

Note: I live in MN so hunting doesn't start until mid-September and goes until Dec 31. Only mentioning it because temperature and amount of clothing I'd be wearing could play into your advice.

    Thanks in advance!
    Jason

I originally used the HSS ultra lite and really liked it but after talking to thirdhandman on here I will be going with a rock climbing harness. Particularly the black diamond vario speed harness. It's around 50 dollars and the advantages it has is it's smaller than regular harnesses. Doesn't restrict your chest and it doesn't cause suspension trauma because it pulls pressure away from the femoral arteries since it connects from the front.

I love my HSS hybrid. The full vest was too heavy but the hybrid is just that. Just enough pockets for what I need.

Sorry to hijack the thread but how do you connect to the tree with a rock climbing harness? If it connects in the front would the strap get in the way?

Whichever one you get you'll want to spend some time tweaking it out. Once I get my harness fitted to myself comfortably I spend some time zip tying or tapping any loose buckles together to keep them quiet and I also sew the straps between my legs together somewhat so they don't drop down and catch the back of my legs every time I squat down. Also any other straps that adjusts I sew together so they won't move. I use braided fishing line for sewing thread. My harness is the Tree Spider and it really only fits me now but it fits me great every time I put it on.
    Good luck.

Spyder, or any harness that has a saddle rather than just left and right leg straps.

I have HSS Ultralite harnesses and I like them. They fit well over or under any hunting clothing I wear. All I have ever used is HSS. I thinking about trying the HSS Hybrid this year.

HSS Hybrid during bow season. Pockets allow me to leave the backpack at home if I want to during the hot early season.

Switch to the HSS Ultralight when the weather cools. I wear it over my base layer but under my jacket/coat

Enjoy the new harness. Can't recommend the HSS Lifeline enough. It saved my *** at least once last year.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless you connect it to the tree at waist height. I still don't see how you wouldn't fall out of it if you go a$$ over appetite.
