I'm a veteran with a fair amount of combat experience and awards and I honestly don't even get mad about these dirtbags anymore when I hear about them. It's a disgusting act for sure, but unless they are scamming their way into something then they can look stupid all they want.

Even though I said it doesn't bother me all that much I have to admit I would also expose/embarrass anyone I caught doing it.

I was on a date a few years ago and a db was braggin' about being in SF in Afghanistan. I said, "really, so if I told your CO what you just said, what would he say." He looked at me. Only one at the table had any military experience and looked horribly at me. I said to them that if he really is a SF, he would be strictly forbidden from mentioning it or any of his experiences and would no longer be SF. I met a few when I was in (I am not) and only know of their job because I was in a position to need to know that. On the other hand, I explained, since his arms are almost as flabby as his mouth, I figure he to be a liar. He looked at me. I asked him if he had any comments are found anything I said actionable. He said nothing. "that's what I thought." Needless to say the date ended in...poorly.

I once met this guy in Hawaii vacationing. He was with his parents talking about how he deployed as civil affairs and worked with sf. The way he was talking was sending some flags but not unreasonable. What mostly threw me off was him stating that he wore barefoot shoes on mission in iraq. I found it highly implausible being Iraq and war. His family was there and I was with my wife so I didn't say anything as I'd only had a few years in none deployed. But I'm pretty sure he was lying.

Although this guy did or is doing a scumbag thing, and I'm not defending him in anyway...but you sound like a total prick. You're saying he "probably" told everyone he was infantry. And who gives a damn he eats chinese food and plays world of Warcraft, you posted this on Memorial Day, a day to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, bad timing Marine. You must be fresh out if this is the first time you're seeing people will lie about their service. Get used to it. Sounds like you just don't like this guy, and falsifying his uniform is just a little peice of why. Hell, CNN didn't even bash the military or anyone in it yesterday, but you did. Congrats. Carry on

You can order them online from several different suppliers. I used to "refresh the ribbon rack" every two years so you never had some that were faded more than others.

Yea extremely easy to get them. You can even get fake honorable discharge or whatever certificates you need to back up your ribbons and career.

as a non military person, this just seems incredibly petty to me

I guess if I was military I would find more offense to this type of thing

Do you really believe anyone that personally knows this guy believes any of his BS? I think we all know people that just don't "measure up", to the standards society sets for us.

As despicable as his actions are, I see it as its his life, his ego and his future that eventfully will pay the price for his own incompetency. His CO's were clearly a where of his "limitations" and treated him accordingly, as to the "DUI" welcome to rural Americas newest tax form, half of my employees have them, and since drinking beer and driving trucks has been and will be around as long as we have both beer and trucks, he is not alone on the boat.

The guys a looser and he needs no help in getting the word. Your time could be better spent on something more positive. :)
