quality ATV's cost more than my truck, making me wonder if I can just get a ball hitch for a good tiller/ cultivator... thoughts, experience? Thanks -jimmy
I thought the same thing.I did buy a 4-wheeler but I think pulling a disc behind a truck would work if you were careful.Q
I have done it that way but I used a old Jeep. With the small jeep it made it a easy to move around the plot.
Thanks for the replies and experince, I'm gonna try to borrow an atv/tiller setup but if noting turns up I'm gonna try the truck haha
I think the same thing. ATV turning can be bad enough some times especially in plots less than a 1/2 acre.
And if it's soft, you're going to dig deeper ruts with the truck tires. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I was doing my buddy's plot and broke the front wheel off my quad so to finish we hooked the disc up to my truck, added a bunch more weight and it worked like a champ. As metioned above turning radius is an issue if you have a tight plot.
Hell yeah man thanks for the reply, so it was an atv sized disc just rigged for a ball hitch? Turning radius shouldnt be a huge problem its gonna be close to an acre if I get the tiller to work for the truck
48" KingKutter w/ a 1-7/8" ball. Just took the ball off the quad and put it on the truck. Tip - take the tailgate off so you can see the disc.
We did it this weekend with the same 48 inch king kutter flip disc and at some point it was the king cutter, Springtooth, smoothdrag in that order working it 3 ways in one pass. Down fall is it is still wear and tear on your truck, its hard to see what your plow is doing unless your turning and your compacting the soil with the weight of your truck right before you try to rip it up. Dont get me wrong it worked, but I wouldnt do it for acres of plots. We were on a 1/2 plot and we didnt have access to an ATV that specific day.
Nothing wrong with using a truck to pull a disc or drag. The only issue is soil compaction potential but in some cases, driving over a seedbed with a truck is a lot like rolling or cultipacking one's plot. It depends on the soil texture and moisture as to the amount of wheel traffic compaction.
