I'm totally scared of heights, I remember those first few years of hunting, trying my first hang-on. I never held onto a tree so tight, and I was sweating and shaking just from the climb.

Now, with the confidence of a safety line that is always connected, I'm fine climbing 20' high and standing/maneuvering on the platform.

I am darn afraid if it isn't a solid set up. I have to use a treestand with a bar. No open stands for me.

I've been afraid of heights. I hate climbing ladders. As a new future hunter I want to start hunting from the ground in blinds and so on. Maybe get a ghillie suit as someone here said they did. either way with a trad bow ground hunting seems like a natural way to go rather than in a stand IMO.

I'm not worried so much about height as I am about the stand malfunctioning. Had two slip while climbing, and since then I freak out more about that. Both where on trees with hard, slick bark. That won't happen again.

I remember the first time I ever went bowhunting. My brother took me to a lock on and I was a little nervous about it. When I stepped onto the stand the strap broke and I fell 20' and landed on my face. What a way to start my bowhunting career! Luckily it only knocked the breath out of me and had a few scratches on my arm. It took me years to start getting back into a tree, but now that I've been doing it again I have no fear whatsoever. Just wear a harness.

He got drunk one night and his girlfriend cut his hair, he lost his superpowers and didn't know it and went splat when he tried climbing into iHunt's stand in the cedar tree.

    Did I win?

Hunting is supposed to be enjoyed and fun. It would be hard to enjoy if I were afraid of heights. For those who are afraid of heights, Ghillie suits and ground blinds come in real handy.

I've made it publicly known several times on this forum i'm deathly afraid of heights!!!!! that being said i am slowly overcoming my fear of said heights. I bought a LW assault and LW sticks to force myself away from the front bar of a summit viper, and so i could hunt any tree. I really trust my HSS safety harness and linemans belt!! once i realized my safety gear was not going to fail me it became easier, and now the rest is falling into place!!

I am happy for you Swamp Stalker. I love being in a tree. I personally think there are a lot more advantages.
One problem though, your last line. Don't say "Falling into place". I prefer "Coming together". LOL. I had to. I know, I know. I had to.

I have jumped out of airplanes, helicopters, repelled out of helicopters and raced motocross since I was 6. I'm only good for about about 15 ft in a tree. A good safety harness takes 99% of the height fear away.

I have a fear of heights. I climb ropes to try and overcome it. Still there.

Same, I am not a fan of heights no matter what I do to get over them. Actually, I am not afraid until I am over 30 feet or so because I have no fear in a treestand, but anything higher and I get a bit of a head spin.
