i just got permission to hunt a property. the owner says that she see turkeys walk by the back of her home often. i took a little walk to day. and in they leaves i saw pockets/ holes where they have been cleaned out. is that turkeys dusting or looking for food? i really dont know want to look for.
It very well could be dusting areas. Especially if the owner sees them there around mid-day. I think the best option is to make locator calls right before dusk and try to find their roost. Then look at the terrain and try to figure out where they go straight from the roost each morning. It may be a corn field, pasture, wooded area...etc. set up somewhat close to the roost and make sure you are concealed well. I hope this helped! Happy Hunting!
Its wooded area and wet.small opening within 100 yards. And see them in the morning. There are some tall pine trees. Its a little urban .property boarders magor high way
right-maybe set up at that 100 yd. opening where they hang out after coming off of the roost? How far away fromt he roost is this clearing?
Well?! any luck? did you get a chance to cut down a nice gobbler? If not, maybe you could share a map for me to take a look at?
If the area that was scratched up is not generally cleand/dusty and an actual depression odds are they wree just looking for bugs to eat. You will see that scrattered all over the place. A good dusting hole will be pretty obvious and they remember where to find them.
no turkeys. but one curious doe. she ran up from behind me just after i made a cal at ten yards.. she couldn't figure out what i was. work her self around me. she was stomping she would jump back ten yards work her way more down wind. Got almost down wind and took off with tail up and blowing. but can back ten min later. she dance around me for 45 min left and came back 3 diffrent times it was really cool.
