A very interesting topic in my opinion. We talk about the purity of albino deer on here alot, the rarity of melanistics and how common piebalds are. From what i understand this all has to do with the amount of melanin the deer has in its body/fur.

Lets switch gears to turkey. Every year i see a whole bunch of different colored turkeys posted on the inter-webs. All white. Grey. White and black. Brown. Brown and white. Are these turkeys albino? Simply just loose farm turkeys and the breeding that occurred afterwards? A rare color phase?

Also, what do i call these turkeys? Smoke phase? Narraganset?

And lastly...who knows the location of one and will let me hunt it? :moose:

A lot of the birds which have a little white in them are hybrids from domesticated turkeys. In my home state I can actually harvest one of these "partially white" birds and do not need to check my tag, because it is not technicall a wild bird. Kind of interesting I think.
