So any other fellas on here that butcher their own pork or beef?
I split a 259lb hog with a buddy yesterday, and we did all the processing ourselves. Was pretty easy breezy and we had a pretty good yield I thought. I finished up 25 lbs of breakfast sausage today and got 2 hams and about 6 lbs of bacon in cure. Looking forward to seeing how my hams and bacon turn out. Already tried the sausage and it is awesome, and had one of my favorites for breakfast. FRESHSIDE mmmm baby.

Very cool, TJ! I am guessing it is similar to butchering a deer?

Also, did you kill it yourself?

Yes and yes... I was around some hog butchering as a kid but I did a little googling to insure I didn't screw it up.

Learned this... that big hog DID NOT give up the ghost easy. Shoulda had that rodeo of film

Field to freezer is the only way to go!
I used to have my deer processed but after I had backstrap come back tenderized (that means they swapped it with something else) I decided to do it myself from now on.
Congrats not to many have the know-how to do this, or the stomach to try it. :tu:

Nice. Beast Light is my go to beer when I'm looking to consume mass quantities. Messed around with Beast Ice a lot in my younger days. Not so much anymore

If its been raised on a farm, or hunted in the western states, I've butchered it. Nice hog! Feels good to be so self sufficient doesn't it?

We used to do our own hogs but now we just send it to the butcher. If any of you have been thinking about just buying a beef or hog I would say do it!

My family has been doing it for 20 yrs. I feel like the quality of meat is better when you go that route and there is also less handling of your meat (I know I giggled right after I typed that). It goes from the farm to the butcher to your freezer.
