It's been a rough day. This morning we were loading jersey barrier out onto a low boy and a high flat and they were taking them down onto I95 where we are building a new bridge. The trip was only maybe 5 miles or so. I was with another guy pulling covers off of road signs when we drove by one of our tractor trailers wrecked on the north bound side of the highway. By the time we got off of the exit and looped back around there was a small croud of people standing on the shoulder, but I didn't see Long Jon(truck driver). When I approached the scene the truck started burning and I asked the people standing if the driver was out, he was not. Two of the barriers he was hauling came through the back of the cab and the front of the truck buckled pinning him inside. One guy was holding a digging bar and told me the tried to get him out but he was pinned in the truck and the doors wouldn't open. He smashed the window to let the smoke out and the truck burst into flames and they had to get away. They told me that they thought he was either unconscious or dead already and I pray to God they are right. I stood 10 yards away from a truck with a man I knew inside and watched helplessly as it burned to the ground. I almost didn't write this but I just want all of you to read it and remember that we never know what will happen when we get out of bed in the morning. And be sure to tell our spouses and children and anyone else how much we love them and pray that we make it home to tell them again.

Thanks guys, Long Jon was a good dude and I hate that this happened. This is a link to a story about it from the local paper.

Thanks for posting. So saddened for your loss... may God grant Long Jon eternal rest and Bless everyone that knew him.
Goodness man that is terrible. I cannot imagine it. About a month ago one of our K9 officers came upon a two car accident. Within 30 seconds the radio traffic went from normal to all out serious. One of the cars caught on fire and the K9 officer ran in and out of the blaze cutting seatbelts off of people and dragging people out of the car. It sounded horrible as people were trapped inside. I believe all the occupants died. It was heartwrenching.
