As Colby said - you get your money back (less processing fee) if you only put in for a preference point, or you are not drawn.
For the Mule Deer tag, you most likely will be drawn, so no refund due - you will just receive your tag.

You always pay up front - even if just buying a preference point for a particular species.

One thing mentioned earlier - but wanted to say for those just joining possibly - your Elk or Mule deer tag now includes a full hunting/fishing license...so you can also bring fishing gear along on this trip at no extra charge.

Welcome Steve! Sweet avatar pic...look forward to seeing you TX boys in camp again.

Will - any return Aussies from prior years?

Scott - you've already made the connections - you can put together an elk camp any year you are ready. Good luck with the job situation - still hope you can work things out for this Sept!

    Cool.

I need to put in for a Mule Deer tag I guess. I'm getting a class a Elk tag that I hopefully have filled by the time I get to the Camp.

I have a few quick videos I snapped on my phone last year after I got my elk...I'll upload these one at a time and share...terrible quality, but sure makes me want to jump in my suburban and head to the elk mountains right now!

    So here's the world premier...vid #1

    Yes, unit 45.
If the deer tag code is confusing you, you actually put in for unit 35 draw as unit 45 is included with 35. The big game manual for 2014 could help clear some of that up for you as they show which units are lumped together for tags...you always put in for lowest number of the group when submitting for a draw.

A deer tag is valid in units 35, 36, 45, and 361. For the hunt code you apply for like bz said you enter the lowest numbered unit

Scott, a man has to do what a man has to do. Make sure you take care of you and yours first! The elk will always be here...wishing you the very best of luck!

Andrew, thanks for the kind words. Looking forward to seeing you again.

I keep three cotton laundry bags in my pack, which I use as game bags.

A lot of good info being share. Keep up the good work!

Waid, remind me to buy you a beer for your 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th............?
    We'll start there!

Does anyone use mechanical broadheads for elk or are fixed blade the way to go?

Frog, I use mechanicals. As a matter of fact, of the 121 big game species I taken from around the globe, only three were taken with fixed blades. I shoot heavy draw weight bows, usually in excess of 74 pounds. Mechanicals work well for me. That said, what works well for you? That's what you should use. Keep it really, know your effective range and maintain that distance. Punch your elk sideways behind the shoulder and it will go down. Matt's elk photo above demonstrates darn near perfect shot placement.

Keep in mind Will shoots a PSE so he could also put a pea on the end of his arrow and it would die. Lol.
