    Hey,

I got my first stand this year and hung it at the end of the season. Now I'm just wondering if you guys leave your stand out all year or take it up and down frequently.

I hunt in the same area so i would hang it in the same tree either way so I'm wondering if you guys just leave your stand in the tree all year or take it up and down.

    Thanks

We have 100 stands always left out. Some in cedars I built in the late 70's. We check, brush, replace seats, straps on a rotating 20 each spring. Tree carp are the nemesis for chewing, otherwise never had a safety issue. Some lifelines have been out 20 years, no issues.

Some surface rust, no big deal. The biggest concern is a limb hitting a stand and tweaking it's integrity.

I have an older stand that chains on that I sometime leave out. All my LWs I bring in. No need to cause needs wear and tear on all the straps.

If I had 100 like PSE, I might leave them out. But I don't with my 3.

I leave mine out year round, only have 4. Bout the only thing I do is sometime around August or Sept I'll go out and replace all the ratchet straps and take stands down and replace all the plastic washers and any bolts that like they need it. Will also make sure everything is tight.

I have left mine up in years past but this year I am planning to get all of them down. Some to work on others just to relocate to different locations. I think as long as you maintain them and keep an eye on the straps you should be ok. Don't just go out to the stand and climb on it though after months away because things happen that you wouldn't expect. Squirrels sometime like chewing on straps and rust can sometimes cause more damage then you woudl think. Remember safety first!

I have about 6, and half of them are left out, some will always be there since the tree decided to grow over parst of it. ;) as far as problems leaving them out, just like was mentioned above normal chewing and a little surface rust, but nothing major.

For the most part, yes. I don't have any big money hang ons. A spring/summer inspection and strap replacement is needed if you do it this way, imho.

I use a climber, so it comes and goes when I do. I hunt State Land where it's not legal to leave stands in the woods. I wouldn't leave my $350 LW in the woods anyway.

If I leave stands up in the areas I hunt someone else will be happy to take them down for me(and keep them), so it's not really an option.

Probably over kill, but we take 15 (all of ours) down every year. We touch up the paint, check straps & organize for the next season. A lot of the stand locations stay the same, but we do sometimes tweak the locations from year to year.

I feel going through this improves our safety some to.

If you care about the stand and want to keep it as safe as possible and maintain it properly bring it in. I have no problem leaving ladder stands up, but I bring all my hang on stands in after season.
