I always am safe in my tree stand and i always try to do everything right. You hear all the time people saying that its selfish to not have tree stand safety because you are important to your family and friends. I think that is right on point, but how many don't wear their seat belt on the way to the tree? I know i am one that doesn't wear their seatbelt as often as i should so i ask myself why am i so safe when it comes to actually hunting but not always on my way to hunt. Just curious to see how many people are the same as me when it comes to this
Can't remember the last time that I was in a car without a seat belt on. Has to be over 10 years now. I don't understand why you wouldn't wear a seat belt or use a safety harness.
who doesn't wear a seatbelt every time they drive? you have a greater chance of being in a car accident than falling out of a tree.
While Driving = Wear a belt (Hate the dinging noise mostly) While Passenger in front = Wear a belt (Scared of other peoples driving skills) While in treestand = Harness (doesn't take much to take your equilibrium off balance) While climbing = None (Can not stand being restrained while climbing) I guess what im trying to say is, use your head in the end. (Not while falling)
"While climbing=None" Over 75% of treestand accidents are from getting in or out of the stand. Have a friend that fell from the 5th step - about 8ft. & caught his arm on another step-kinda lucky because it slowed his fall but, Not a pretty sight. He wasn't able to hunt for about a month.
I admit it, I don't always wear a seat belt in the truck. I HATE those things. I've even got the dinger thingy turned off. One probably saved me from getting hurt or worse last winter and I still hate wearing them. But I always wear my safety harness in a tree.
I always wear my harness when in a tree. I've talked to some people who don't wear a harness when in stands with shooting rails. To me, that's not enough to keep me from wearing a harness. The little inconvenience of wearing a harness at ALL times is highly outweighed by the piece of mind and security of hunting with a harness on in my opinion.
If I'm driving further than where I park to go to work (3 miles from the house), I have my seat belt on. All my justifications sound like excuses, but I'm usually the only one on the road on the way to work, and there are very few on the way home.
I wear my seat belt most of the time but when I'm just on the local gravel around the farm I just hook it behind me so the alarm stays off. I get tired of constantly having to unlatch and relatch it opening gates here at the farm. Never used a tree stand harness in 30 years of hunting until this past season and still didn't use one every time. I use all ladder stands which I feel are safer than hang-ons but accidents can still happen and at 10' up can still be very deadly. I'm getting there, just that a harness wasn't always convenient in all the stands. Too many stands and not enough safety setups to go around last year.
I didn't used to wear my seat belt when I was young, dumb and(well you get the point). Having a child changed my outlook on things. My daughter needs me and I need to be there for here. I haven't ridden in or driven a car without one since just after she was born. That's over 10 years. It saved me from getting seriously hurt when I rolled my Explorer a few years ago. My daughter was in the back seat, buckled in as well. Saved her from seeing my get seriously hurt. I'll never go without it.
Always wear seatbelt and most of my hunting has always been in ladder stands so i never wore a harness til now i started to hunt in hangons and id rather wear a harness and have fun hunting then goin to the stand sittimg in ur tree and ur heart racing more worrying abt falling out of a stand then actualy seeing a big buck lol id hate for it to happen and kill me on hunting forever or actialy kill me literaly lol
