Going to Eastern KY on a Elk hunt in a couple of weeks and wondering what broadhead would be the best? Right now I am shooting the NAP 2 blade bloodrunner, Hoyt Spyder 30 65lbs and Maxxima Red arrows. Should I switch BH's and if so to what?

I plan on using my same 125 gr. Strikers that I do for whitetail.

I still have a few Montecs that I used last year for whitetail. Appreciate the responses

Most your fixed blades will do great as long as they are sharp. I have killed 2 elk and a mule deer and a whitetail with the ramcats. I do have a good friend who has killed 3 elk with the grim reapers. I am a little wary of expendables with elk. Had a bad experience with a expandable a few years ago.

I have shot 23 Elk with Rocky Mountain 125gr 4 blade broad heads. I've taken bears, lions, and moose with them too..... They are nasty. If you can find them, I recommend them.

The Solids look really nice and all, but are they twice as good as Hellrazors, Montecs, or Ramcats? Cause they are twice the price!

they are made with a much nicer steel and every broadhead is hand stropped and spin tested. the solids also come in a nice tin case lined with foam to protect the heads from one another and a lifetime guarantee is always nice. to me the solids are much more than twice as good as the others.

Have you tried to sharpen them yet? How hard is it? Thats one reason I like the Montecs and Hellrazors, reusable and tough.

    A few things:

Solids, Easy to resharpen but even better then that they HOLD their edge better then anything I seen before... A bunch of shots in foam and your still shaving. Also they are sharpen on the bottom angle as well so in the unlikely event you don't pass though your cutting back out.
    These heads scream quality.

They definitely look awesome and high quality. Maybe I will give them a try. I assume they fly well?

QAD exudes have a huge following right now, and for good reason. for replaceable blade head they are very stout. I know on friend that have used them on most everything in the US and also a plain games trip to Africa and he gives the rave reviews. If a replaceable head is what your looking for these are top shelf.

VPA's are somewhat lesser known they look similar to montecs and hell razors but are are MUCH HIGHER quality then both of them.
Montec are some injected molded process...and Hellrazaors are "lazar welded"....
VPA are machined from an solid piece if tool steel. a better value, the same price with higher quality. I used them for several years and have super results.
They are the easiest of all to resharpen as the angle is the same, just lay them flat on a stone. They come in several blade configurations. Both vented and invented and both 2 and 3 blades ...I have only used the three blade Terminators, I have them in 100, 125 and 150 grain.

Well i have been checking out the Solid BHs and WOW! Based on the videos, those things are pretty impressive! I would like to see others replicate similar tests he did. I didn't realize the designer of them was Steve Speck from S and S Archery. He seems like a nice guy, I have bought a few things form them. He has some cool hunting videos out too. He is also coming out with a pretty nice looking pack for the back country folks.

Looks like I know what my next BHs will be!
