I was out with my caller coyote hunting Sunday. Found a bunch of beds on a South facing hillside and bumped a few deer out of them. They are digging thru the snow to get to my turnips/wheat. Got pics a real nice heavy, tall 8 pt that I'll be after the rest of the season.
Deer are definitely grouped up on the food right now. I didn't see any deer either Saturday or Sunday night but then again I have squat for food. Todd saw 20+ last night on his plots, and Richie saw 1/2 dozen does coming into his turnips as well. Late season is definitely here...
Saw a couple out yesterday while putting cams back out. Also saw a lot of tracks and spots where they had laid down in couple of the smaller clover fields we have. Went out Friday afternoon when the storm was moving in and didn't see anything.
They have unfortunately not found that my turnips and radishes are supposed to be eaten.....only the tops so far.
I going to get back out this week. We have about 40 acres of corn standing behind our house. With the snow on the ground I should have all the deer in the county on my property. Maybe ill see all the deer that wasn't killed this year.
I saw something today that personally I'm not sure what to make of it. Again it was blaming this issue on too many permits and out of state hunters blah blah blah. Anyway they claimed that this year there's been 771, 858 permits sold. So of that's true that's up 137, 692 from last year. Maybe its right and maybe its not bit from 2005- 2012 there was only a increase of 63, 355. That's were, for me, it gets kinda odd. Again not saying its not rightbut that seems kind of inflated.
Yea like I said idk, you can go to DNR and look at the harvest reports back to 2005 that breaks down everytying. I just found that to be a pretty high number. There was a article I also read toward the end of November that said there had been about 350, 000 permits sold as of the date of article. Think it was around the 21st or so, so who knows like every year probably haveta wait until its all over and see what's goin on.
Makes ya kinda wonder about some other stuff been hearing. I still kinda wondered about the weather for the gun seasons. Not that it kept people out of woods but how it actually effected deer movement. We had pretty strong winds for first season that would effect this area.
EHD deer numbers released. Sorry if posted elsewhere haven't been on in a while Heartland Outdoors ::
And here's what you're up against. Even with input from those that buy permits and licenses to support Illinois resources they still ignore their views. This state is as corrupt as they come and it is on many levels throughout. Heartland Outdoors :: KC's Corner :: Are IL deer hunters too opinionated?
While talking to a farmer I only hunt a small parcel on, he told me of the amount of dead deer he has been finding the last two years in his fields. I didn't realize it (EHD) was that bad in my area, either that or someone is knocking them off. Anyway, while making my annual Xmas rounds to a couple of landowners, deer were literally everywhere today. More than I had seen all season, but all but one were does. Hopefully next year will be a good year for deer surviving EHD along with changes by the DNR(doubt it).

Firearms Deer Season Tallies Drop Across Upper Midwest | OutdoorHub Looks like it is not just Illinois.
Its not surprising, I'm not sure how anybody can say its this state or that state. Lots of factors and circumstances. Next year or two will be interesting. Decent reads guys
The season ended at midnight. Long season. I just checked the on-line harvest for archery and it looks like a decline of 3 to 4 percent. Wonder if they will change permits for next year?
