Anyone shoot one? Looking into a new handgun purchase and this one sparked my interest. I already have a Glock 23 and 27 and a bunch of S&W revolvers. Looking for something a little different. Any reviews, like/dislikes, or similar type of guns out there?
I have shot one but keep in mind ammo for it is pricy. a good price will be around $30 for 50rds. Lowest I have seen is $29 and average I see is $35. Thats the only reason I never got one. Expensive handgun to shoot.
That's about the standard price for normal pistol ammo. I've shot one a few times. Loved it. Good long range handgun. We were shooting clay targets at 100yds. He had a nice scope mounted on his.
I would mainly carry this one when on extended camping trips or hunting. I wouldn't use it for plinking on a regular basis. I just love the idea of it holding 20rds (even though NYS allows only 7 now...).
Thanks, I would definitely stay away if that's the case. Do you think it's from the round it's firing or the quality of the gun itself? Also, anyone know of any similar guns/guns shooting similar rounds as the 5.7?
I don't know what your buying for range ammo but your overpaying if you think that is the standard price for normal pistol ammo. Just bought a case of 500 .40rds for $125. Thats 25 cents per round which would mean 50rds is only 12.50 if math is correct. Thats a huge difference in the price if you ask me. 12 bucks vs 35 bucks. The pistol is highly sought by crooks due to the fact the round pierces a bullet proof vest.
We shot over 250rds in my buddy's gun and not a single jam. FN makes fantastic guns. Was probably the ammo. Or lack of cleaning of the gun.
I actually have a decent amount of time on this pistol and can say the following statements with complete confidence. This is based on my own personal experience. YMMV. Cons For half the price you can purchase an FN .45 caliber pistol that holds 17 rounds of a caliber that doesnt suck. For 1/10th of the price you can buy a russian tokarev that will also puncture level IIIA body armor. The safety position is weird and exteremly hard to manipulate under duress and while wearing nomex gloves. The trigger sucks, its heavy, but at least its awkward. They tend to jam, this is due to the fact that its a bottle necked cartridge, you also see this same phenomenon with anything chambered in .357 sig. , due to the same cartridge design. It only comes in a full length, which might make concealability an issue. Pro's Its light, like kind of rediculously so. Hammer drills are a cinch, due to the fact it doesn't recoil very much if held with both hands. However, it is a very snappy cartridge, one handed use is iffy. Grip it high on the backstrap, trying to get as close to the slide as possible without ripping your hand up. Lightweight bullets dont exit targets. They tend to detonate on impact, leaving an ok permenant wound channel, however creating a massive temporary one, usually turning heart and lung media to mush. Keep in mind however, lightweight bullets dont punch glass well. Its a fast and flat shooting cartridge, milk jugs at 100 yards are much easier than they should be. I don't know what your intended use is, however my honest opinion based on real world tactical experience is that the pistol is nothing more than a novelty meant to sell ammunition thats dramatically overpriced.
There are other manufacturers of 5.7 handguns out there. Can't remember off top of my head but quick search you will find them. If you want a similar concept that's much more economical, check out the .22WMG kel-tec PMR30. 30 rounds and very accurate. Will likely be my wife's bedside pistol. She could stand off a hit squad and never have to worry about reloading. And .22 mag pillow points are nothing to sneeze at close range; mess somebody up bad.
I said that was for .40. 357 sig is way overpriced right now. Thats another round I would not take shooting often. Im either shooting a 9 or 40. Defensive rounds for those calibers are highly effective so training in those calibers will make a very proficient shooter.
DOJ standards have been updated to reflect new threats to law enforcement. Level IIIA stops 5.7 ammunition. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
I was going to say that but it's hard to convince people. Myth busters should do an episode on the 5.7, there's so much misinformation out there that folks spout like gospel.
Didn't when we tried it. Didn't scratch plates but punched soft armor after 4 rounds. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
