Last Saturday evening I filled my last archery tag in Wisconsin. It has been a great season and I was able to fill my two doe tags early, also capturing both on film. I would have been satisfied with my season that way, but as October rolled around bucks started showing up. I had pictures of three for sure shooters and a bunch of other two year old's. There was one buck that showed up frequently during daylight and I knew I probably would be able to resist him if he came in. On November, 8 there was two for sure shooters that showed up on camera chasing the same doe. That's when I decided to take off school and work the rest of the week and I was going to hunt that tree until I filled my tag. The first two days were eventful with small bucks chasing and lots of doe's. I knew it was a matter of time. Saturday night rolled around and me and my buddy were late getting to the stand because we are moving to a different house. I checked the camera and there was a solid 130" 9 pointer that was there at 2:30 it was now 3. I figured I had missed my opportunity. It was so windy that night and we had a fork horn sneak in on us chasing a doe. They passed through and about 15 minutes later my buck was 10 yards from the tree trying to scent trail the doe that had gone through earlier. He walked strait under the limb I was standing on, then underneath my buddy's feet as well. I drew back but he was so close to the tree the shot wasn't ethical. He turned and took a few steps quartering away and i smoked him at 4 yards. He ran 30 yards and piled up in frame. That's when I looked at the camera and realized he never hit record. It all happened so fast because he snuck in on us. I didn't let that ruin the moment and I could tell he felt bad enough already. It was one of my more exciting hunts even though he isn't a giant it was some fun, up close action. I cant decide if hes 2 or 3, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. Im going to be buying more doe tags, because we are overran with does in this area.
Congrats nice buck! I have always wanted to do a hunt that I have to get in a boat to get to my stand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks guys. We own 25 acres with a river that runs through the middle of it. The canoe is the easiest way to slip in without disturbing anything. It's a pain having to push upstream every hunt, but worth the pressure it takes off the deer.
