I am really thrilled to see my grandpa kill a deer of this caliber on the opening morning of Rifle Season. I understand that I was pumped up anticipating him coming my way but that's hunting and there are plenty of them out there. I kept telling my grandpa how sweet it would if I got to harvest him on opening morning of Rifle in KY. He just smiled and kept telling me how he wanted me to kill him. We both decided that we wanted to be in different stands just to expand our view to see more deer. He sat in a buddy stand about 100 yards away on top of a ridge that overlooks the corn field we where hunting in and I was at the bottom of it behind him. The morning started off with a brown lab following us to our stands and constantly barking before daylight. Before 6 A.M. my grandpa spotted a buck I call "The Great 8" coming in behind me at 60 yards. I didn't have a shot opportunity, I was watching a doe in front of me feeding in the corn. 6 o'clock comes and I get a text saying "YOUR BIG BOY IS CHASING IN FRONT OF ME". My adrenaline kicked in and I was ready for one of the does to bring him my way. Instead a 6 point buck is drove over to me after being put in his place by the buck he harvested called "snickers". Another 30 minutes goes by about 10 minutes before 7 A.M. a doe comes from my northwest wind. Trailing her closely was a buck I call "The lopsided 8". I was not planning on harvesting him because I was waiting for Snickers to come around the bend. I watched as the lopsided 8 ran over the hill towards my grandpa's stand. And 3 shots right after the other. BANG! BANG! BANG! I came down from my tree stand and my grandpa was almost in tears whenever he told he killed my buck. I told him it was okay and we started looking for where he last seen him fall. We finally found him by a yellow tile post huddled up in a puddle of blood. My grandpa was so tore up he didn't want to harvest that deer. He missed the first time to try and scare him over to me but he did not spook and headed towards the neighbors property. So he harvested him before the neighbors could because he knew I would be mad if they would have killed him. My grandpa said he is giving me that deer for all the hard work during the summer by running trail cameras and going out in the afternoons half a mile away observing from afar. I really want snickers to be in my room and to be able to say I got to grow a 150 inch deer and let my grandpa harvest it on opener of rifle. But my grandpa refuses for him to keep him he wants me to have it and I really appreciate all the stuff he does for me and how he helps me out he is a really good hardworking man who is my role model and I want to be just like him.
Your grandpa sounds like a good guy.... In years to come the memories of this hunt and being with your Grandpa when he shot him will be far greater than you having shot the deer your self.

Well one thing about it....the neighbor won't be hanging that bad boy on his wall! Lol....at least it's in the family and you have it to look at whenever you feel like it. That's such an awesome deer....I love it too!!!

It likely got moved because its not bowhunting related. Great story and deer regardless! It'll likely get more traffic in this forum anyway lol
