Do most of you guys prefer 1-pin sights or multi pin sights. I have Been thinking hard about getting a 1-pin sight. Opinions please?? Advantages and disadvantages?
I prefer a one pin over a multi pin sight. With a one pin you don't get that cluster housing. Also you have can shoot just about as far as you want with a turn of a wheel. But yes there are one pin sights out there that are fixed as well.
It's all preference to be honest. There are a bunch of different threads about this as well if you wanted to do a search. I shoot a single pin HHA and I like it very much. I happen to not be a big fan of the cluster in my sight aperture that a 5 or 7 pin creates. But now you also have to consider the fact that you can forget to move your pin to your intended yardage of your target and this can have a bad result. I have never done it while hunting, but my buddy did it this season and shot over the back of a deer. I did happen to do this in a 3D shoot though and shot under a target at 40 yards. I have been pondering around the idea of possibly getting a floating 3 pin. Where I would have my 20-30-40 yard pins and then the 40 is the floater from there on out. I'm liking the Spot Hogg, Hogg Father 3 pin I'm just having a hard time pulling the trigger on it with its big price tag. I use a fixed one pin sight at the moment. I don't shoot past 30 yards hunting, and so my pin is set at 20 yards. At 30 yards my arrows land a couple inches low, and a couple inches high at 10 yards. Takes a lot of guesswork out of it. Put the pin in the middle of the vitals and shoot. If I shot target more or if I hunted open plains I would probably switch to a single pin slider.
Single pin out to about 30 yards is what i use. Always used a single pin and never saw a reason to switch. If i was shootint at further yardages i would think about it, but i limit myself to 30 now since getting a new bow.
Single pin is the only way to go...for me. No cluster of pins. I leave mine set at 20 yards and if I need to move it I do. 90% of the deer I've shot it was still sitting on 20 yards though.
I've always only shot one pin, except when I first started out 25yrs ago. Had 2 pins then, 15 & 25. Now I shoot an HHA, set on 20yds. And for anything I will shoot, that's all I need. I do like the fact that I can adjust the sight quickly if I ever needed to, or wanted to shoot at longer ranges.
Just curious, why do you feel you need 5 pins on a hunting bow? I can see it for 3d shooting, but to me it seems like too much for a hunting sight. (assuming you shoot 40yds and under). Not trying to start a fight...obviously you like it, I just personally don't know anyone that shoots with a sight with more than 3 pins so I'd be interested in hearing about it.
3 pin. Use 1 for shots under 25 yds, 2nd pin for slightly farther, and last pin for 40 yard target and arrow flight checking.
I switched to the single pin HHA this year i love the fact that i dont have the cluster but i have several shots at 40+ yards and i'm extremely confident in those shots but i have a bad habbit of not moving my pin. Its all personal preference. If i buy a new bow next summer i'm going to swich to the trophy ridge react sight.
I live on 3 acres & have a pretty nice range set up to 60 yards. I regularly practice out to 60 that way 20-40 yard shots seem easy. Also, one of these days they will open the speed goat season here again & that could involve some long shots. I contemplated the 7 pin spot Hogg when I bought mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I love my spot hogg hunter 5 pin sight, i dont hunt from treestands and being out west i like having 5 pins.
Clarity..20, 30, 40-Floats to150. Shot and solid to 110. Limit Reached - 110 with proper form and a good wind - Money! 110-150 unverified, potential fletching issues.

I tried a single pin but never could get used to it. In fact sights are the thing I have changed the most on my setup. Settled on the Trophy Ridge React and absolutely love it! Nice bright pins, easy to see and set up.
