As a Red Sox fan, I'm pumped after game 1. I'm also a realist, and know there won't be a repeat performance from the Cards tonight. Jitters will be gone.

I couldn't stomach it anymore. To watch that was just sickening to me.

Hats off to the Sox. Better team won last night. Hopefully Wacha can bail them out again tonight.

    Much better showing tonight.

Is Mike Matheny that good of a manager? Or is he just the lucky one put in charge of a high quality organization?

I think a little of both. The players like playing for him, and with that bullpen, sometimes its hard to make a bad decision. Outside of Choate, they are all slinging it mid to high 90s. But honestly, most managers would look smart with those arms to choose from.

I think the double steal was a gutsy/great call! Seemed to be a momentum shift and turning point in the game. I'm now a Cards fan for rest of series.... screw Boston!

** and leaving that right handed reliever in to face Ortiz and couple other left handed bats instead of choate was against the norm too. He stuck with the dude that was slinging it and he got out of the inning. Impressive managing and baseball IMO.

I think he is that good. You guys surely remember how he played the game, right? One of the best catchers of his time. He's made great calls all year and through the whole post season. Obviously his players like to play for him for a reason.

I agree with NYB. The double steal is the call that put them in the position to win the game. Wacha was flawless other than not throwing the 3-2 pitch to Ortiz in the dirt. I looked at my girlfriend before that pitch and said he might as well walk him or he will get hurt. She's finally coming around and realizing that I'm a baseball genius. ;)

    I just bet she is.

Kozma almost blew that one . He was going earlier and almost got himself picked off and they had to wait 3 pitches to go.

What a crazy game. Sox just need to put the ball in their pocket when there is a play at 3rd.

Right call was made. Be interested to see how Buchholz fairs with his injury. A lot on the line for a guy not feeling too great right now.

I was calling, ok screaming interference(obstruction is correct term) while craig was trying to get through the legs of the 3rd baseman.

Good thing I'm alone in my camper tonight getting ready for a long day of hunting tomorrow.

Yeah you could tell off the get go that Middlebrooks was in the baseline. It wasn't his fault, just wrong place wrong time.

That's what confuses people. There is really no SET baseline (only going to first) the runner establishes the "baseline"

Middlebrook kept saying after the game he wasn't in the "baseline"yet, he clearly obstructed the runners established path , ie, basepath.

Hopefully, Craig isn't hurt too bad

Even kevin milar (redsox homer) is saying obstruction is correct call.

I flipped on ESPN, to hear what Schilling had to say, and he even agreed with it.

As much as I really enjoy seeing Boston lose like that.... I just don't know about that call. Middlebrooks was laying on the infield side of the 3rd baseline. Even his feet were clearly inside of 3rd base. When craig got up he started to advance on a line starting from the infield side of the bag back towards the baseline when he tripped over him. There was no way for the infielder to try to get out of the way laying on his stomach. Gray area according to the letter of the law and IMO a little too close to call that to decide a world series game. I could see if there was a clear intent to get in the runners way or a disregard to not get out of the way, but that wasn't the case. Kind of like when a reciever and DB get feet tangled up on a pass play in football... incidental contact. That being said..... SWEET!!!! BEAT BOSTON!!!!!!

As a Red Sox fan, the series is over. The rule needs rewritten to be more specific, but it was the right call if you read the way it is written.

I wouldn't say that. Lynn likes to go out and lay an egg from time to time, and you guys already beat Waino once. This thing is far from over.

If the Birds win tonight I might have to cough up the cash for game 5. Saw them clinch it in '06, and '11.
