I have been hunting all types of game my entire life, and about two weeks ago I decided it was time to get into bowhunting. So I picked up a Mathews Creed, listened to tips from experienced bowhunters, practiced, practiced and practiced some more. After two weeks of obsession I packed up the truck and headed to the Texas hill country for opening weekend of archery season. Saturday was pretty slow, but this morning the deer were out enjoying the cold front that blew in overnight. After passing up a few shots on young does a nice mature doe came into sight. I Placed a clean lung shot at 35 yards and she dropped after running about 100 yards. Field dressed she weight in at 65 pounds.
Nice looking doe. Congratulations. What part of Texas you at. I was just stationed down in San Antonio great place.
Thanks everyone!! I am definitely hooked. In my opinion bowhunting is more fun and more of a rush than hunting with a rifle. Something about being up in that tree only 20-30 yards from the deer while blending in to the environment. I was hunting in Comfort, TX just south of Kerrville. The deer there aren't the biggest, but there are a lot of them. Can't wait to get that smoked jalapeño-cheese sausage in!!! Mmmmm tasty.
congrats man. i doubt ill get any deer hunting done this year sadly. hopefully ill take some time and money saved for some turkey tho.
